When I worked in a tea shop, I actually got a few people coming in requesting jasmine tea. Why jasmine? Because thatâs what Uncle Iroh would drink on Avatar: The Last Airbender.
So hereâs something to think about:
Even though he was royalty, Uncle Iroh was a master of preparing his own teaâ even after he left with Zuko, he could always be seen preparing it on his own, eventually opening a successful tea shop when the one he worked at turned out to be awful.
For a firebender, heating a pot of water wouldnât be difficultâ a few seconds of rage and youâd have it at a rolling boilâ but a rolling boil would ruin the tea.
The secret to a good cup of tea is often in the temperature of water that you use.
Jasmine, green and white tea tends to need between 160-180* F (71-82*C)â go any higher than that, and youâll scald the leaves and wind up with bitter tea. Let it steep for too long, and itâll scald anyway. So you canât just boil the hell out of it and walk away; to be really good, a cup of tea needs a lower temperature and a softer flame. It needs patience and attention. And thatâs where Uncle Iroh excelled.
It was such a wonderful character detail, and I love it so.
âŚIâŚwaitâŚI justâŚbâŚ
*Gags*Â âThis tea is nothing more than hot leaf juice!â
âUncleâŚthatâs what all tea is.â
âHow could a member of my own family say something so horrible?â
DO YOU MEAN THAT ZUKO NEVER PREPARED A GOOD CUP OF TEA BEFORE BECAUSE HE WAS TOO IMPATIENT TO PROPERLY HEAT IT AND THAT IROH PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER RIGHT THEN AND THERE?
âWeâll have to make some major changes around here!â â His next line which he says firmly, grabbing the teapot and looking at Zuko as he turns.
Like literally after this the main plotpoint between these two is Iroh teaching Zuko how to be more patient/kind/open-minded while also teaching him how to properly work in the tea shop and I justâŚdo you mean to tell me those two were actually not just random meshing plotpoints but were a direct correlation?
ARE YOU KIDDING ME, BRYKE!?

Know your rights.
While people are inclined to whip out their phones and film when they see something alarming happening, those videos are not always recorded in a way that can be used as evidence in a legal proceeding or to support advocacy tactics.
At the human rights organization WITNESS, where I work as the senior U.S. program coordinator, weâve learned that video has a greater chance of making an impact when itâs filmed ethically and strategically, and released in coordination with advocacy and legal efforts. Using the camera in your pocket can be a valuable way to ensure the world bears witness to abusive policing and systemic racism, help hold authorities accountable, and advocate for the real safety of our communities.

Actually though I donât care if a billionaire worked hard or not. Overfishing and overhunting take hard work too, and theyâre flat out illegal, why is over-hoarding the limited currency of your country ok

goddamnitkastle presents: A thread of Kastle cliches we should have gotten/gotten more of but we were untimely robbed of them and I will probably not get over it any time soon
Source of original post linked here
Romantic cliches are amazing when being used as a culmination of chemistry, rather than being used in place of it.

SMOOTH MALFOY, SMOOTH.
I feel like the problem ppl have when constructing redemption arcs is people make âthe character realizes what theyâve done is wrongâ the end step instead of likeâŚone of the earliest ones. a satisfying redemption arc doesnât resolve when the character first feels sorry, it resolves when a character has really journeyed towards atonement and made enough change in themselves to achieve some kind of symbolic victory over who they used to be
not sure if anyoneâs said this yet, but for my fellow writers out there who want to create stuff like this, OP is right and there are technically 5 steps of change:
1. precontemplation.
the person is still in denial and isnât even considering changing their behavior yet
2. contemplation.
the person starts to understand why they should maybe change, but theyâre still hesitant
3. preparation.
the person has decided to change. theyâre making plans to put their goal into action and have possibly made minor changes, but they have not stopped doing the unwanted thing
4. action
the person makes significant steps to change their behavior. they seek help, avoid triggers etc.
5. maintenance.
the person successfully changes their behavior for a period of time, though they mays till face struggles.
Aaaand the floating step which may or may not happen: Relapse
relapse can occur at any point in the process and might happen more than once. or not at all.
This applies to Any type of change! Addiction, diet issues/weight loss, and a variety of bad behavior habits. Of course, as a writer you can start the story at any step or take it as far as you want if step 1 doesnât happen until after the story begins. People are pointing out that change isnât linear and that is so true. As someone whoâs currently watching a narcissist parent attempt to overcome addiction, I can totally agree. Itâs back and forth, sideways, and in circles. Lots of circles ! In the world of fiction there are so many ways to explore any type of change in a character, and Iâm always down to talk about it with anyone who wants/ needs to

Some advice for when youâre writing and find yourself stuck in the middle of a scene:
kill someone
ask this question: âWhat could go wrong?â and write exactly how it goes wrong
switch the POV from your current character to another - a minor character, the antagonist, anyone
stop writing whatever scene youâre struggling with and skip to the next one you want to write
write the ending
write a sex scene
use a scene prompt
use sentence starters
read someone elseâs writing
Never delete. Never read what youâve already written. Pass Go, collect your $200, and keep going.
This is the literal best writing advice I have ever read. Period.
Special note: âKill someoneâ means kill someone in the story. Please do not kill random real life passers by every time you hit a block. My lawyer says misunderstanding writing advice is not an acceptable defense. See you all in 25 to 50 years.

âThe companies have wrested control of land, deforested it, and helped build a controversial highway to their new terminal in the one-time jungle, all to facilitate the cultivation and export of grain and soybeans.â
âSchwarzman, a founder of Blackstone, owns roughly a fifth of the company, making him one of the worldâs richest men. In 2018, he was paid at least $568 million, which was, in fact, a drop from the $786 million he made the year before. He has been generous toward McConnell and [t]rump with that wealth. In 2016, he gave $2.5 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, McConnellâs Super PAC and put Jim Breyer, McConnellâs billionaire brother-in-law, on the board of Blackstone. Two years later, Schwarzman kicked in $8 million to McConnellâs Super PAC.Â
âBlackstone employees have given well over $10 million to McConnell and his Super PAC over the years, making them the biggest source of direct financing over McConnellâs career. McConnellâs Senate campaign declined to comment.
âSchwarzman is a close friend and adviser to [t]rump, and served as the chair of his Strategic and Policy Forum until it fell apart in the wake of the Charlottesville neo-Nazi rally, in which [t]rump famously praised 'very fine people, on both sides.â In December 2017, as the final details of the GOP tax cut were being ironed out, Schwarzman hosted a $100,000-a-plate fundraiser for [t]rump. Some of [trumpâs] dinner companions complained about the tax bill, and days later, [t]rump slashed the top percentage rate in the final package from 39.6 to 37.Â
âŚ"Bolsonaro has plans to pave significantly more roads in the Amazon that have otherwise been impassable much of the year, a project made feasible by international financing.
âŚ"Of course, Hidrovias is also involved in paving B.R.-163 and other development projects in the region. Those projects, such as the paving of the highway, have additional indirect â though entirely predictable â consequences, as they spur side roads that make previously difficult-to-reach areas of the Amazon accessible for mining, logging, or further deforestation.
âŚ"A Blackstone spokesperson noted that the fund only owns 9.3 percent* of Hidrovias. But that ignores the 55.8 percent of Hidrovias that is owned by PĂĄtria Investimentos. On Hidroviasâs website, PĂĄtria is described as a company âin partnership with Blackstone,â and it is known in the financial industry to be a Blackstone company.â
*Pay no attention to claimed percentages of ownership. What goes on behind ownership curtains is fluidly incestuous. For example, from April 2019:
Blackstone transferred its 35% stake in Brazilian real estate developer Alphaville Urbanismo to its partner PĂĄtria Investimentos. Blackstone
âBlackstone transferred its 35% stake in Brazilian real estate developer Alphaville Urbanismo to its partner PĂĄtria Investimentos. Blackstone and PĂĄtria originally invested R$1.4b in June 2013 for a 70% stake in the company. The two firms formed a partnership in 2010 and Blackstone retains a 40% stake in PĂĄtria.â
ââ
Keep in mind,
Itâs not like this graft flows directly, or just one way.
A massive Brazilian meatpacking company is raking in millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars even while two federal agencies are investigating the
"Why is the USDA bailing out plants operated by the biggest meatpacker in the world?" asks an activist.
Every American farmer who has lost their Chinese market for soybeans should be questioning exactly why trump âwoke upâ one morning with his great idea of his trade war. Did Schwartzman tell trump the road and terminal for transporting soybeans from Brazil was ready?
Itâs undeniable that the Amazon rainforest is burning right now to increase Brazilâs farm land in order to meet Chinaâs soybean market.
