I understand her perspective but it also diminishes the fact that there are Blacks who seek to lighten their skin, straighten their hair, and Europeanize their appearances to fit socially constructed attractiveness. There are Black folks who do not understand the fact that Black is beautiful. I don’t believe that Black is Beautiful caters to the White Gaze but since the White Gaze is so pervasive, that was always going to be a probability. Some things need to be said. Black is Beautiful. 

^^^^I agree. Black is beautiful is not about white people. It’s about valuing and loving ourselves. Fuck what white people or anyone else thinks. The real problem is whites have convinced themselves and everyone else that they have a monopoly on beauty. They don’t.
