translating some more of HH now that i'm caught up on events again, i would just like to say that HW does barbara and juven's sibling relationship a disservice by never showing them being Deeply Annoying On Purpose together
it looks like magda is one of the few people that barbara both respects and likes so she's usually on her best behavior around magda, or at the very least not trying to start shit, so she just comes off as a bit childish and eccentric
what magda doesn't learn is that barbara and juven have the same personality and it's because juven and barbara have a 10 year age gap, which means that when barbara was born juven got a new favorite toy and barbara grew up idolizing everything her brother did no matter how dumb or uncool, they're very much ride or die and if juven were to say some insane shit barbara would "yes and" him without hesitation, they love doing bits together
juven also thinks of her as his darling baby sister that can do no wrong, he absolutely can and will enable her in literally everything, including manslaughter, she's kind of a spoiled weirdo exactly because juven is doing his best to undo all of barris' hard work parenting her
^this dynamic exactly tbh
new fear unlocked: man who smashes a cake in my face
why isn't nana gay it's so perfect for it
watching arcane again and going back to old fandom posts for it and being REMINDED of how annoying the fandom was peak arcane
mostly my focus is on Mel right now because I LOVE how complex she is as a character. People love to talk about Jinx and Vi as daughters which is completely valid! but people always seem to forget that Mel is just as undoing as a daughter to Ambessa as Jinx and Vi were to Vander and Silco.
throughout my time in the arcane fandom whenever the conversation turns to Mel, usually all people have to say is: "she's so pretty she doesn't deserve Jayce i love her she's beautiful" and that's usually about it. Then the conversation quickly moves on to Jayce, and then of course Viktor.
We all know she's beautiful, we all know she's powerful, we all know about her and Jayce's relationship, what about her relationship with Ambessa? Her relationship with her city? Her relationship with the UNDER city? Her relationship with POWER? All of these things are so incredibly important to her character, and are almost always brushed off.
If her true character isn't brushed off, other times she's instead thrown under the bus. It's all about how Mel is incredibly manipulative and callous and shallow, when in reality she was one of the most level headed, anti-violence characters throughout the show. She saw potential in Viktor and Jayce and their knowledge and inventions, and because she wants the best for Piltover, she wanted it to be used!
She is such a social genius, and is very diplomatic and great at navigating conflict, despite being so young and KNOWING that war is always an option, but CHOOSING to leave it as a last resort. Mel is not a perfect character, nor are her morals perfect in every situation (namely when she proposes creating weapons in the event that they may have to use them as a last resort, but namely towards the under city. She is generally callous towards the under city, which is a fair criticism, but so is Caitlyn in season two!)
Maybe I'm reading too far into things, maybe I'm just not built for fandom spaces, and maybe a thousand people have said this before, but so many people love to brush off Mel's true power and intelligence and refer to her as the beautiful queen character before immediately shifting focus to other characters (almost always male characters at that!)
tldr: Mel is beautiful and powerful, but where's more discussion about the deeper levels of her character in fandom spaces?

not really wanting to watch adolescence because of how circulated it is. idk what it is about it but it makes me so uncomfortable to see something like this being repeatedly publicised and promoted. now, i've done it too.
is this a show that sensationalises violence? i don't know if that's the right question to ask. any show with such a subject matter does this for me- it is the nature of this form of media. i mean, ultimately if we really want to be extreme every form of media profits off such a sensitive topic in some way, but we're not going to be extreme today.
obviously, there is a line. one drawn by the knowledge of human dignity. i don't believe that no one is not aware of this. does this cross the line?
arcane s2 broke me
you know what's really good? a series of unfortunate events. i can't even begin to say how much i love that series. i like how comforting the end of the show is versus the end of the books tbh (which just further depresses me- i do like the books a lot though and what the author was doing).
i love how they interpreted the work and how much effort and detail they put into everything- the blind trial, the hotel, monty's room, the train, the sets and costumes and characters and everything.
i feel like fans of this show and especially the books too know how to think critically. the baudelaires are free thinkers in a world of nearly none and that's so important now. i don't think media literacy or critical thinking has gotten worse- i think it's just become more obvious now.
anyway go watch a series of unfortunate events. read it first if you want a better experience.
ok why am i still thinking about nana

no way number five just oined a support group hahaha
omg i'm watching the umbrella academy s4 and why am i missing s2 still what
ok so about barbie. i feel like everything about that movie got so confusing and like a year on, i'm still confused on what the point of the movie is. i'm also wondering how greta gerwig went from little women and lady bird to barbie- like i feel like both of those films had very clear cut messages and barbie was sort of a soup of feminism but it had really nothing much to say that hasn't been regurgitated out of corporate feminism already. i dislike how revolutionary ideologies, or even just common sense, has been distorted and commercialised until it becomes something disgusting to see. i don't even know, honestly
Just like me fr

ok so until i took an active interest in world affairs and tried to broaden my understanding of like... everything (a dilettante-ish interest honestly that has led to many rabbit holes), i've felt like i've been so insulated from everything.
everything can be so carefully cultivated on my fyp, so i've never did seek out much more beyond what was there. i don't necessarily think it was damaging to my mental health initially. i think that if you spend a lot of time in one particular area, your worldview becomes very narrow and it wears down critical thinking skills until you've assimilated to this perception of the world and value different things.
in this way, i wasn't aware of world events unless they were so major my family was talking about it. i don't watch cable news and i certainly never plan to, but i think that it's kind of a pity that the preceding generations fought for a free press and no one really pays attention to mass media anymore. not that mass media doesn't have flaws, because journalistic neutrality doesn't exist as long as human thought does.
the biases of people becomes so much more amplified with the narrow, 16:9 ratio, short and easily digestible tiktoks. like, i'm trying to increase my attention span because i think tiktok eroded it a lot, and during my doomscrolling era i would skip videos over like 30 seconds. imagine attempting to explain something thoughtfully and meticulously in 30 seconds- one would be forced to distill it down until it can be swallowed whole without anyone thinking much of it again.
not that traditional media isn't much more exploitative. i mean, the us is a great example, and i think my generation is simultaneously much less gullible than the previous generations but also in different ways naive. maybe it's bc we're young.
jinx is my fav character in arcane and i wonder what this says about me
