Peter’s eyes narrowed, huffing out a sigh of frustration. maybe he hadn’t given them a reason not to blame him, but he didn’t feel like he had given them a reason to blame him either. he had just left, after all. he hadn’t split them on purpose. “ i thought you’d be fine, “ he admitted, “ you were fine !! “ peter liked to think he’d checked up enough on them the months before his sudden departure to know they’d be fine with their new families and the rest of the lost boys who stayed behind — they still had friends and families around after all, and john and slightly, peter’s right and left hand, to pull the boys together. “ so why weren’t you? why did everyone collectively decide to give up?! “ and although, they were speaking about the lost boys, his question was reaching out further including tink too and of course, wendy.
“Peter, even if we were fine, we still missed you. Fine is...’fine’ is different for everybody. The boys..We can be fine without you, but we don’t want to,” Tootles sighed, feeling like none of his words would ever be chosen carefully enough, “We want you to always be with us, and when you left with no warning...there was a space between where you weren’t there for us anymore. We’re still...’fine’, but it was lonely. No one likes being lonely.”
He cut himself off before saying anything else, almost certain he had misspoken somewhere in his longer sentences. Tootles really couldn’t speak for any of the Lost Boys, only himself. And Peter leaving left him feeling alone in a crowded room of his friends who he loved with everything he had. Like the leader who’d brought them together...didn’t want them anymore. Wanted something better. Left without saying goodbye, “No one’s giving up. But there was a time where...I thought you might have. I don’t want anyone to give up.”

Pascal knew the bare minimum of sign language; not enough to hold a conversation with someone, unfortunately. It was something they felt they should’ve learned before but for whatever reason… never had. Offering the boy a warm smile, they pulled a pen and pad out of their backpack, quickly jotting down: I must be. Then they signed ‘hello’ and ‘nice to meet you’, gesturing to the empty seat waiting for them.
Seeing as this was a blind date, an introduction seemed necessary. Turning their pad back towards themself, they wrote: Pascal. 21. They/them. It felt a bit too formal, but they were a fish out of water in this situation. How long had it been since they’d been on a date? Pascal knew they were getting in their head, but they couldn’t help it. As a quick after thought they added I like your shirt before turning the paper back to him, still smiling.
- Tootles, 19, he/him - He wrote in reply, relaxing much more now that he’d found the right person. Though notes were preferred, he knew he couldn’t expect a stranger to keep up writing for an entire date, so he quickly signed Hello before turning up his hearing aid, “I am Pentiss, but people call me Tootles,” He gave Pascal his name sign, though he could tell their ASL was rusty and unpolished. Not a problem at all. The fact they could even sign a greeting was better than some Lost Boys, “The notes are for if I can’t sign something, it’s perfectly fine.”
An insecure part of Tootles worried a date might be difficult for a hearing person, but taking note of Pascal’s smile helped push the worries away a bit longer, “But thank you! I was going for uh, Augustus from Fault in Our Stars look. Y-You have a beautiful smile!”
☆ 。 ▫ ○ — BOO LIKED to think she knew everyone around town that was around her age. of course, that would be impossible– to truly know everyone your age around town. but if boo thought anyone could do it, she could do it. she knew there were groups around town such as the lost boys or the sugar racers, but she didn’t really belong to any group herself. that made befriending everyone so easy. she was loyal to everyone and clueless about any tension around town. when it came to tootles, she didn’t know much about him. but what she did know was that he couldn’t hear very well and preferred to write notes. so, she waved to get his attention before bouncing over to him. she took her backpack off and pulled out a coloring book and crayon, scribbling ‘ hi tootles! :D ’ on one of the pages and showing it to him.
Tootles wasn’t sure how startled he should be about the girl bounding up to him, but judging by the bright smile on her face, she didn’t mean any harm. He had certainly watched the cheerfulness she spread everywhere, and how the room brightened when she walked in, though her name escaped him right now. Whoever she was, Tootles took a mental note that she liked coloring books an drawing smiley faces.
-Greetings, I like your book!- He wrote quickly, -You have beautiful energy!-
Now that they were waiting, Pascal was starting to wonder why they’d signed up for a blind date in the first place. It had seemed like a good idea at the time — they needed more excitement in their life, good excitement, things had been too still and negative for too long. They’d been looking forward to it, right up until the moment they sat down. It had been awhile since they’d gone out, they weren’t even sure how to act, and they weren’t about to get their hopes up. Blind dates could be a recipe for disaster. They could’ve been set up with someone that asked a lot of questions or wanted to talk a lot, or they could have been set up with an ex for all they knew. They should’ve just asked Rapunzel to play matchmaker.
Their nerves showing through their bouncing leg, concealed by pastel colored leggings (the shade of blue matching their current hairstyle), they took a quick peek at their phone and glanced around the room once more. Perhaps they should have brought a sign. Oh, wouldn’t that be something? To get stood up and not even know who’d done it.
@tootle-oo
Tootles bounced nervously at the entryway for a moment, a little unsure how to enter this date. How did people normally go on dates? He could read a million books on the subject and still not know the answer to that. A deep breath was all he took to push himself further in and actually start looking around for someone sitting alone. Perhaps they should’ve coordinated clothing or some signal between the two of them, but instead Tootles was just left with his wits (and hopefully, his date’s wits) to get a feel for how this should go.
He spotted someone about his age sitting alone across the room and ecided to bite the bullet. It was probably too much to pray they would know ASL, so he whipped out his post-it notes and quickly slid over to their table.
- Hello! I hate to assume, but are you my blind date? -
“I just want to make it clear how much I hate this question before I’m forced to answer it, because I could never rank my brothers like that, they’re all my family. But fine, I guess I will if I have to… Peter, Slightly, Wendy, Michael, Nibs, Cubby, Marmaduke, Tootles, Tink, and Brett. But I truly love them all equally– this question is just terrible and I hate it.”
M: hmm... i like the invisible man one!!! and the anna karenina ones the most of those, i think
M: they scream very you
T: THERES SO MANY MORE THOUGH
T: "In these dangerous times, where it seems that the world is ripping apart at the seams, we all can learn how to survive from those who stare death squarely in the face every day and we should reach out to each other and bond as a community, rather than hide from the terrors of life at the end of the millennium."
T: "The greatest illusion of this world is the illusion of separation. Things you think are separate and different are actually one and the same. We are all one people but we live as if divided."
T: do you even realize this can of worms you've opened im so sorry
