Everybody knows, New Year's resolutions are easy to make and hard to keep. Allora, I decided to break the cycle of unrealistic New Year's resolutions by focusing on just one of those that reflects my core value;  allow myself time to meet my goals.
This is inspired by the following TED Talk.

âŚallora, if you want a more successful approach to life, this book could really impact the way you think! I spent an isolated Christmas vacation in 2014, it was the middle of nowhere in the Alps where I decided to design a much more efficient way to approach my work life. I was looking for a tool to redesign my work environment, and I stumbled upon a systematic way to optimize the most important business model of all; the business model âYOUâ.
Actually, my lovely dad gave me this book, along with this text message: âIt seems this applies to your life at the moment. You will learn from this.â He was totally right.
If youâre dreaming of a new career or a new life path, but youâre stuck in the middle of nowhere (as I was back then), you need to read this book now, and work on your âCanvasâ. This will provide you with a visualization tool, that will help shift your focus from your skill set to the value you provide to your customers, company, co-workers, in addition to your family and society.
During my vacation I completed 3 canvas models. Yep! I became a binge-canvas-editor!; one relating to my previous company, one of my life path, and the one of mine and my husband. We figured out how the value we provide is much larger by combining our skills, (by the way, heâs a photojournalist and Iâm a digital strategist). It was like an epiphany.
I went to New York 2 weeks later for a business trip, I was offered a new job offer there following the tough question: â...if you move to New York, in your opinion, what do we accomplish together?â. I was ready to answer yes, thanks to the completion of my âcanvasâ. At that point I recognized my skills, my value provided, and my key resources.
The end of the story?
I quit my dream job in Milan (which by the way, was absolutely amazing!), and I chased my dream to live in New York City. I moved with my husband Aldo, weâre working on a terrific project together sharing our new life adventure, and a small but cozy studio in Manhattan :) New York City rules! :)
This is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
