what is the best way to improve the yellow of tan mice bellies? should i breed a yellow to a black tan and that will help the yellow pigment? or should i breed two black tans and pick the best yellow pigmented pups from their litters?
Homogeneous animals typically have better pigment then heterozygous ones.
There really aren't any shortcuts you can take with tan.
Yellow is dominant over black so it won't add anything, most yellows also have very pale bellies which is not the goal here.
Breed for homogeneous only, select the offspring that have the better colour distribution each time.
Try to breed away from faults like black showing theu the tan on the chest *(think moon bear)
Early in the line progress might seem very slow but after a few generations you will notice the improvements.
Try to keep the line as pure as you can.
Blue is a recessive that will wash out the tan belly.
Chocolate can degrade the quality of the black .
And pink eye dilute is just not something you want in there anyway.
Im still slowly plodding along with my mice.
The dutch line is proving to be its own set of challenges due to the nature of how random spot placement can be.
I am hoping to start a room upgrade this winter when I can get some time off work.
This is 6 months of improvements.
Full fluff angora
Some of the best angora I've seen in a long time

This goes for ALL animal care.
I need people to stop using chat GPT.
Read a book published before 2015 ,
Or
TALK TO ANOTHER HUMAN BEING WITH REAL EXPERIENCE in the subject.
A.I isn't answering your question.
It is generting what it thinks LOOKS like an answer.
Its also scraping from the sum total of the internet.
Including the misinformation .
Also just stop using the brain rot machine that is actively destroying the environment

Our herefords are looking very nice 👌
I'd like to see a bit more size on them but the markings are incredibly uniform these days
My biggest line Siamese.
My smallest line havana
Both lines im working on towards the same goal.
A larger mouse with a lean physique.
2026 goals for the mu room .
When the cooler months come around again we'll be planning a major upgrade buy expanding our lines and just re working the space to be more efficient.
For my individual lines I'll be working on improvements to the overall size and conformation still. As well as improving the colour in a few lines.
These lines include
-tans (black and chocolate)
- dutch
- even marked
- havana
Well be doing more with the white undercoat
In testing what other self colours it expresses on .
I'd also like to put pearl on long coat to see how that looks.
And lastly we will try to source some recessive hairless to work with.
For the blog.
I'd like to get some articles happening on various topics.
And prehaps one day set up an actual website with the various information I've come to gather.

is recessive hairless extinct in Australia ? well it is proving very difficult to find!
being a recessive it may just be hidden deep in lines that are focusing on other traits. I am actively on the hunt for some in mainland Australia. reach out if you have them , I no longer ship my self but i knows the ins and outs of how so distance is not an issue. the last time I worked with the gene there was an issue with the males being sterile due to anomalies in the seminal ducts , a some what known issue with recessive hairless along with the eye problems.
recessive hairless differs from dominant patchwork in a number of ways.

Some BEW , reverse Siamese and bone coloured mice
Black tan mice.
A long way to go with well .... everything here 😅
Improvements to make include
-better depth of colour on the tan
-better depth of colour on the black.
- eliminating the rust coloured guard hairs.
-improvements to the body shape and tail sets.
Head sets are amazingly not too bad
