It’s been real, Tumblr
After four years and three months as Head of Music, a once startup-deemed “Evangelist,” at Tumblr, I’m hanging up my collection of hats and moving on to partner with a marketing and strategy firm.
Thank you to all the passionate music fans, bloggers and artists who made this job so rewarding and motivating for me each day. Before I came to Tumblr, we didn’t know how to feature music and now it’s one of the top categories across a limitless community.
Thanks to @frankocean for premiering Channel Orange on his blog, in the way he wanted everyone to hear it.
To @actuallygrimes, @santigold, and Local Natives (@outtasightblog), who showed people how you could put out an album on Tumblr.
To Tyler, the Creator, a.k.a. @golfwang, for hosting his first solo show on US soil for the Tumblr kids, and doing two in a row despite the high altitude to make sure everyone who came to see him got to do so. Shout out to the Boulder riot squad for not arresting me. Seriously, that was intense.
To @portugaltheman for working by my side to invent Tumblr IRL, @irlirl. R.I.P. All the Feels.
To Earl Sweatshirt for letting us put on HIS first solo show in the US in front of a room full of Doris masks, and the last time all members of @oddfuture performed on stage together.
To @snoopdogg for not showing up at our SXSW show and, more importantly, to @asapferg for saving it.
To all the Tumblr IRL bands, including Childish Gambino (@iamdonald) for the last-minute super secret house party, @the1975music for bringing it out to the UK with a force, @glassanimalsband for putting it down on a @vinylmeplease edition, @santigold for the wildest 99¢ store, and Flying Lotus – @officialflylo – for crossing off #1 on my hit list and, in doing so, changing the game.
To @littledragon for having a no-pants meeting with me and then creating a pop-up comic book shop with @showdrawn.
Oh, and the six bands who put SXSW on its head— @thetwinshadow, @courtney-barnett, @travis-x, @tobiasjessojr, @odesza and @houndmouth.
To John Mayer (@jhnmyr) for launching what evolved to become Answer Time, and to everyone who has hosted one since. R.I.P. Dashboard Confessions. Shoutout to @anniewerner for running that shit.
To @taylorswift for putting Tumblr on ITS head, and later spinning hers when she met @david.
To the people who had me speak on their panels and the publications who wrote nice things about us and @whenislunch for making me look good. Shout out to @papermagazine for putting me in the Kim Kardashian Booty Issue, the best excuse for my Mom to own a copy.
To Yahoo, I guess.
To everyone in the industry who had faith in me, thank you.
To @amandalynferri for being my partner in cahoots and to @valentineuhovski for being the last Evangelist standing.
To @david for giving me these reins, and to all my wonderful colleagues who built this platform for their hard work and collaboration.
PEACE.
