i think this has been said before, but genderbends take away the meaning and messages of falsettos.

I think a lot of people’s interpretations of Marvin and Whizzer’s relationship suck because they suck all the playfulness out of it. The early part of their relationship is like The Thrill of First Love: sexy, heated, full of banter and bickering—something they both enjoy despite their grievances. They may not like each other’s tendencies, but they both find their relationship incredibly fun to be in. They wouldn’t have been in a relationship otherwise. I’m not saying their dynamic isn’t toxic, but March of the Falsettos is pretty clearly about the decline of their relationship: if you’re talking about anything that takes place before it, you can’t act like they don’t enjoy what they have together…they had to make it to a year together somehow!

marvin is better than me. if my ex-wife got with my crazy psychiatrist and invited me to the wedding after i broke up with my maybe boyfriend i would actually end up on national television and NOT for the weather forecast. thankfully, i am not marvin!

i love how different both of their internalized homophobia is.

no but imagine you're have cherub cheekbones and he's got a perfect bone structure and you're an artist and he's a writer and you're all cute and shy and he's all loud and outspoken and you're brunette and he's dark haired and you're moles and he's freckles and you're wise and he's brave damn we really could've have it all. :(
