I accidentally came up with this friend group while playing around on something earlier and now they HAUNT ME bc I love them so
Evie, Ezra, Jason, Fred, and Sam.
Evie is a cis woman Music major who can sing very well in general, she likes opera and musicals, but her REAL passion is like. 2000s symphonic metal/emo-ish music. She has an Amy Lee impression and she uses it. During karaoke nights, she tends to belt out Evanescence and operatic covers side by side.
Ezra is a trans man art student, dual-majoring in Fine Art and Psychology. He wants to eventually become an art therapist. He loves horror movies and paints scenes from fictional horror movies, and his favorite artwork so far is a painting of an eerie Not Quite Human staring out from under a lamppost. He met Evie and thus everyone else during a particularly grueling English Lit class.
Fred is a cis male Accounting student, which confuses a lot of people because he dresses in Hawaiian print shirts and board shorts whenever he can get away with it. He also thinks he can dance. He can not. He's Hard of Hearing but that's not why he can't dance. He just has no rhythm. He met everyone except Sam through Jason, and met Sam at a drag show.
Sam is a nonbinary Dance major and use their talents a lot as their drag queen persona, Tubie D. Termined (I actually don't have a name yet). They met Evie during a Choral class, which is how they met everyone else. They are besties with Fred and egg him on a lot, and people tend to think they're dating. They are not.
Jason is a cis male Economics and Kinesiology dual major. He hates Econ but won't get school support unless he takes a "real" degree (his parents don't think physical therapy is a good enough job). He used to date Evie, but they both decided they were better as friends. He met Fred playing basketball on the weekends with the Deaf students.
These 5 decided early on that school is fucking hard as shit and everyone needs to decompress, so they set up a roughly monthly karaoke night. Everyone who attends has to take a turn, and it ends up super cathartic when certain people (*ahemEzraahem*) have a preference for deeply emotional songs that reflect how they're currently feeling.
Fred, however, has made it his mission to torment everyone. One night, he teamed up with Ezra to sing nothing but disco. Another night, he refused to sing anything that wasn't a Skillet song. Yet another night, he and Jason teamed up to sing only Lonely Island Boy songs. Everyone groans but ends up laughing.
Sam loves to dance with their singing, and when they team up on duets with Evie, it gets crazy. Sam can hold their own with singing pretty well. They've been trying to convince Evie to try out drag, but she's not sure it's her scene, so she just goes to shows to support them.
Jason mostly likes to chill out and watch everybody, but if things get very emotional or tense, he'll jump in with a funny song. (One time when Ezra sang Icon for Hire's "Get Well" and was clearly upset afterward, Jason was like "no worries i got u" and sang "I Threw It On The Ground". Another time, Evie was upset about a poor grade, and he roped her into dueting "Don't Stop Believin'" while everyone else groaned.)
Unrelated to Karaoke Nights, Sam once threatened to beat a guy's ass if he broke Ezra's heart. Evie was standing in the background menacingly. Jason and Fred were distracting Ezra while this went on.
