i actually would've wanted to watch nolan's odyssey because i think it is a fun movie, even if not necessarily a fun odyssey movie, but they shot it in imax. go find an imax cinema! these things are scattered like memories of a kind and peaceful childhood they are nonexistent they are myths of the ancients and therefore i am not going to bother

no i am actually going to make a post because it's such an insane thing the book does. i've seen someone mention how there are two twists in phm, for the book-readers the first one was the alien (because weir was not really someone you'd expect to write alien sci-fi) but for the movie-watchers the twist is the betrayal. and i kind of agree that it's a bigger twist movie-verse precisely because in the movie they had to defang stratt. we don't see her make a lot of morally questionable but nonetheless correct (for the lack of better) choices like she does throughout the book. while reading, in the end when grace gets this specific memory back it's devastating but also it's so in-character for stratt it doesn't come as the big surprise anymore; the big impact is not even the betrayal itself, but grace's entire personal view falling like a house of cards. he's been running on the assumption that he was a good man, a brave man. there's this clumsy exchange with rocky where they talk about it, how it's an insane trait to be willing to die for your people, but since rocky and grace are here, it means they're good people. there's so many scattered 'i might die, but at least i will solve this problem' hype-talks grace does. and then he remembers, and then he straight up never talks about it again. and there's this very specific shift, because grace from the start of the book is a man who builds himself solely from the crumbs he gets, and it's a good version of grace. he doesn't think too highly of it, he understands he was a somewhat late addition, but to learn he didn't even want to go? that he refused, had to be drugged and dragged there? oh this man is now grace-2, the coward, the failure, and he does not talk about it at all after he has his moment. it's so good. when he has the exact same choice later, to run away or to step up into the big hero shoes, it's such a satisfying character arc for him. i just liked this book so much man
