Since I have a Japanese Minidisc deck it's only fitting that the first album I transfer is a Japanese band. "Action!" is a fantastic 80's metal band and this is their 1985 album "Heart Raiser", check out the track "The Stairway To Nowhere (The Devil's Trap)" that closes out the A-side of the LP.
Finally figured out transfer my records to Minidisc! It was actually super simple and I was over thinking everything, it's been years since I've done any traditional recording and totally forgot that you need to have the receiver set to Phono and not to MD/DAT. Duh of course you need to have it set to what your wanting to record so you can set your levels and actually listen to playback, can't do that if you set it to your output device that you're recording to when unless you're directly plugged in to said device. Can't wait to get my cassette deck back from getting repaired so I can start backing up these J-Pop tapes I've got.
The best type of employee.
Well since the person that was gonna repair my Sony CD player ghosted me I decided to just buy a completely new deck. Amazon had a payment plan for the Yamaha CD-S303 that I had been eyeballing so I ordered it. Best Buy had an Onkyo deck with good reviews for a decent price but it was a gross 5-disc changer and I've I've never had a good experience with those multi-disc decks. Not too excited having to get a modern piece of hi-fi equipment, but at least this Yamaha had good reviews, supports gapless playback and can play files from USB that I'll never use.

Tonight's Minidisc to relax to.
Went out to lunch with my sister & niece and we saw this dope ass mystery machine.
Sony your damn manuals from the 90's read like hot garbage. I have both an optical cable and a damn analog cable, all hooked up to the proper inputs/outputs between the receiver & Minidisc deck and I still can't get audio through to record to disc. I would bypass the receiver and plug the turntable directly in to the Minidisc, turntable has a phono pre-amp built in, but Audio Technica think they're cute by having the AT-LP60X use a fucking 3.5mm to RCA cable that's 3ft long. I really need to invest in a hi-fi cabinet that's on wheels so I can move this junk around easily, getting on the floor and squeezing behind the current cabinet is getting old, like me. Listening to Seikima-II's The End Of The Century is making things better though.
Needed some relaxing music after the stress of this week.

It's ok everybody your life will be in my rough, working man hands soon. They got me taking this boring as fuck 24hr course but at least I get a $2 raise out of it when I finish.
Think I figured out why that one recordable minidisc wouldn't play sound, possibly was recorded in LP mode, hence the 138min run time on a 74min disc, and my player doesn't support MDLP recording or playback. Mystery solved? Probably? Maybe?
We have audio! Hearing this deck play audio made me feel so good, was worried my string of bad luck with hi-fi gear was gonna peg me again. You can't tell from the video but fuck Minidisc sounds beautiful. I've always wanted a player since the 90's but they were so expensive in the US and the format never took off here. Really blows me away how this format failed in the states, it's the perfect replacement to the compact cassette. Digital audio on par with CD plus it's recordable, whats not to love about it? I just wish I hadn't got in to this format so late, the aftermarket price for media is absolutely insane, I like Stabbing Westward as much as the next person but $100 for a sealed copy is outrageous. This is def gonna be a format I use to record to, that Silent Hill soundtrack cassette needs to be on MD with a custom label made for it.
Episode 2 of "Minidisc Theater", fingers crossed that we can get audio from it now that I got a retail album to try. Side quest today will be adding this MD to the Discogs database since it's surprisingly missing.
Absolutely slamming my head against the wall trying to get this shit to work. Player works, 7 of the discs are blank, 2 give a "Disc Error" message and 1 pulls up a TOC showing 10 tracks at 138 minutes. That 138min disc confuses me though, when I push play I get no audio and it's a 74min disc that it's recorded to. Was it recorded with a Hi-MD deck? I have a copy of Misato Watanabe's Tokyo coming in the mail so hopefully a pre-recorded, retail album will play nice. Once the cassette deck comes back from getting repaired want to try and back some tapes up to MD.

DLC for Doom: The Dark Ages is pretty great, sucks that a chunk of the staff that worked on it got laid off right after it was released.
Until I get my CD player fixed gonna see how this old PSOne works as a replacement. Have any of ya'll used one of these early model Playstations as an audio CD player? I've always heard people rave about how good this model was for music CD's but never tried it out myself.
