i feel like john would have a whole array of terrible things he's done emotionally to ppl that he doesn't fullllly acknowledge. that's too much of turning the mirror on himself. mostly he tries not to think about it. he's had a few instances of coming super close to messaging drew to apologize but he does recognize that that would be self-serving and wouldn't actually benefit drew at this point. the answer he'd give to other people is the time he drove home drunk and sideswiped a mailbox and came close to driving into someone's living room, only bc that's the textbook answer of what he should say (and also he wouldn't tell them about how he kept doing it even after that bc again, turning the mirror on himself). the thing he actually feels the most guilty about is forgetting to pick up joni from school one day until like 9pm and having to run all around campus looking for her while fearing the worst.
for gale—he woulda like shot a bird with a bb gun as a kid or something and buried it himself. idk if he would tell ppl that tho. he probably gave an awful lot of thought to the actual gun in his dad's gun safe. and he seriously considered it when some old dude propositioned him in exchange for money. that's maybe a running theme in his life, a lot of 'almosts', but he hasn't actually done anything that others would consider that bad. maybe he would have, if john hadn't come back into his life and all.
