I think it was especially insane for the passenger to only include randy’s overbearing mother through a phone call, but we get an end scene with ms. beard where randy seems more at ease, and this is reinforced by the two plushies having a tea party, you know his mom would have thrown that out without a second thought to how randy would actually feel because she believes getting rid of everything that would remind randy of benson is what he needs, but ms. beard has created a safe space for randy to process what happened to him by letting him be around reminders of the event. he’s teaching ms beard's daughter the same game that caused the accident he's mulled over his whole life, drawing a car with crayons, (puppeteering the plushies probably, he’s always voicing the giraffe)
It actually kills me that benson never got to have that, and I know ms. beard would have done it for him too.
