Last night, Harmonix gathered a bunch of people together at The Mayan in downtown LA to show off Rock Band 4 for the first time, and I was lucky enough to be there.
There were free drinks, and free swag, and I got to chat for a bit with my friend Eric who works at Harmonix, but hands down the best part was watching people take to the stage to play the game. They've made some neat advances in gameplay with this sequel, and it's neat to see the game running in high-def on a new engine on new hardware, but the sense of camaraderie and fun that's been there since the first game came out 8 years ago hasn't diminished at all. At their best, music games like Rock Band can bring people together in the spirit of creation and collaboration like no other video game genre can.
I shot some video of one of the groups that took the stage, because I felt like they really captured that spirit that makes me love these games so much.
