I made MLP Monoma a year ago but got scared to post it until I saw other people’s renditions and gripped at my seat so here it is!
Monoma’s cutie mark was a challenge! How can I possibly make up a combination with the words PHANTOM and THIEF?! It’s impossible-
Keeping the mark simplistic is hard, especially when you have to make it unique but without a lot of detail, or else it’ll look too cluttered and hard to see.
The yellow ribbon works as the ribbon on of the drama mask, while also being placed over the eyehole to act as a burglar’s mask.
This highlights the “Thief” in his name. The comedy mask is placed over the tragedy one to refer how Monoma’s character is usually portrayed in a comical way.
While he has his serious moments, Monoma tends to brush it off with japes and taunts, hence why the tragedy mask is hidden behind.
Monoma sees life like a stage play, viewing people as roles such as protagonists, antagonists, etc. Not only does it fit the theme of theatrics, it also shows how Monoma puts on a caricature compared to other characters. This is more directed to 1-A but he speaks with enthusiasm, often posing dramatically to go with his taunts.
Where does pony Monoma, Phantom live? It’s a little different.
Earth pony Phantom grew up in Manehattan due to the fact that most earth ponies live there, also it’s PERFECT for him. The city is ridden with ponies that aren’t very nice for the most part and hey there’s theatre musicals and all those arts stuff! He’ll fit right at home, due to this being rude and snarky is all he knows really. He just took a liking of theatrics and went to pursue his dreams there.
Unicorn Phantom grew up in Canterlot, considering how most unicorns lives there it only makes sense right? BUT that isn’t the only reason why, I have a stupid little simple backstory tied to it. When he was a wee little filly he attempted to get in the School for Gifted Unicorns, but unlike Twilight Sparkle, he failed his entrance exam, ergo he was rejected from getting into the school. Upset, Phantom grew bitter to the world and to himself. Thus, it was the jumpstart on Phantom’s rude remarks and antics.
Started with MLP ended with MHA this is becoming full circle.
