cant wait to get drunk today either it will fix me or end horribly
When my friends say 'Thank you' after I say or do something nice, or help them, or whatever , I always say 'Of course'.
Because of course I'd help you. Of course I'd make you a gift. Of course I'd spend time with you. Of course I'd sit on VC with you till one of us falls asleep. Of course I'd fight the world if it meant you'd be okay. Of course I'd watch your favourite movie or listen to your favourite song. Of course I'd drop everything to help when you need it, no questions asked. Of course I want to listen to you rant about your day
Of course I would, because you deserve it.
remember when kirk and spock had that shit on?
we actually cancel all the trains when it rains because we don't want them to get sick, if you even fucking care

I don't disagree that a lot of eating disorders are really about control (mine was) but the question remains: why is controlling what you eat so desirable to the average person searching for control?
It's because we're taught from infancy that what you eat reflects on who you are. If you eat too much, or you eat the wrong foods, then you might get fat, and if you get fat, it means you're gross and lazy and have no willpower and must be unhealthy. So if you control what you eat by restricting what or how much you eat, you can prevent turning into any of those things.
If it was just about control for control's sake, you'd see a lot more cases that weren't about restricting calories or eliminating foods deemed unhealthy by the diet industry.
There are lots of eating disorders beyond anorexia and bulimia that are motivated primarily by fatphobia.
And TBC, I'm not saying that every single ED case is motivated by fatphoba, because there are exceptions to every rule and all that. But having spent a lot of time with a very wide range of folks in ED recovery, fatphobia is almost always a factor in starting down that path, and when it's not a factor in starting, it becomes a factor in resisting treatment.
okay so I have a lot of points that I would use to argue against this except I'm actually trying to recover and answering properly is something that i firstly don't have the energy for and secondly don't really want to think about so sure whatever anon you don't really need my approval on your opinions anyway
actually i've been thinking about this ask for a while and do want to give it a serious response
I'm not denying that eating disorders are impacted by societal fatphobia. However, I do think that saying that has a part to play in ignoring the reasons why people develop them, and focuses too much on the 'vanity disorder' stereotype. Anon was discussing how the control aspect relates to a negative view of being fat and lazy, but so many people use it primarily as a form of self harm which I feel is a different issue. Eating disorders usually develop or get worse after some kind of triggering event or trauma, and at least in my experience, it's far more about the internal feelings of punishment and physical harm than wanting to appear a certain way to other people. I want to gain weight because I don't actually think I look good at my lowest weights, and will always encourage other people to eat whatever makes them happy, 'healthy foods' or not. However, denying that food is more about denying happiness and wanting people to see your internal mental health struggles in a physical form, particularly as someone with a history of other forms of self harm which are done for the same reason. The idea that most or all eating disorders are due to a negative view of fatphobia is kind of a reductive/ lacking in nuance view imo. There's a girl on Instagram called Tara who is a scarily low weight and is constantly accused of similar things whenever she posts, even though she keeps telling people to see her as more than her disorders (ARFID and anorexia,) and she personally describes her problem as wanting to see how far she can restrict without her body completely giving out. I feel that a lot of people at these weights don't feel or think they look good at all, and so from that perspective I don't think it really relates to society's body standards particularly as you become even more 'lazy' when you don't eat enough to have the energy to do anything. So essentially, I agree it's usually a factor at some point, but I don't think it's fair or helpful to use fatphobia to explain all eating disorders, there's a lot more going on that is a deeper problem and not exactly related. Open to discussion on this, as I probably have more stuff I forgot to say
do you guys like morally dubious lesbians in real life as well. please
