I’ve been quiet about this because I’ve honestly been holding out hope that this season of IWTV was going to improve (my fucking white audacity mistake), but with the current NAACP situation, I feel that as a white person who has been seeing posts all over social media littered with hard headed, denial ridden (or straight up anti-black) white people, especially with the position and privilege that I do, I have to say something.
This season has been a dogshit, violently racist minstrel show and the peak of the downfall of white feminism and white liberalism. Every Black and brown character has been completely OOC and VICIOUSLY demonized in favor of coddling a white man’s trauma (trying to soften up lestat, a violent racist with a past of domestic violence and abuse), the racial micro and macro aggressions that the show is littered with, and now episode six. An entirely white writer’s room has written an episode in which a Black character was called a “slave” multiple times.
I’ve also been APPALLED by the amount of white queer people who have equated anti-black slurs and rhetoric with words like “dyke” or “faggot.” If you think genuinely that calling a Black personal a “nappy haired slave” or a “bucket of Louisiana fried chicken” and calling a gay person a “faggot” are equally offensive, please block me and exit my account. You need to take a deep, hard look at yourself.
Let me make this perfectly clear: IF I return to writing fan fiction about this now-sorry, violently racist excuse for a television show, it will not include a shred of content from season three. I stand unequivocally with anyone reporting this to the Hollywood Bureau of the NAACP, whose JOB it is to flag this shit and investigate the treatment of POC in the cast and crew. No one is wasting resources. This is a matter of personal safety.
If this show continues to be a vessel of pure white supremacist propaganda, I’m never consuming it again. Shame on the writer’s room and shame on Rolin. You are foul disappointments to your industry. Fuck you.
