Key elements include the stem (main vertical stroke), ascender (the part of a letter extending above the x-height), descender (the part extending below the baseline), and counter (the enclosed space within letters). Other features like serifs, terminals, and bars contribute to a letter's overall shape and style. Understanding type anatomy is essential for typeface design, as it influences legibility, readability, and visual harmony.
