Lt. Kovan “Doc”

Day 7. I have been on this strange planet for a little over an earth week now. Apparently I was knocked out for a day in that alleyway. My son looks far healthier than he did when I met him, and he has had less nightmares since he started sleeping against my abdomen. I think I am a good parent. I may not be a good person by civilian standards, but I’m not going to be like the person who abandoned my little bat. I will be better than that person ever could.

Day 4. The kid is almost half a foot taller than when I first saw him. He learns quickly too, and apparently he gets growth spurts twice a year for a month. When I say he learns quickly, I mean he picked up English to the point where he can be considered fluent, despite my terrible teaching skills. He also managed to get me to the point of speaking his language (that I still can’t understand the name of) to the point that I can pass as a visiting guard. Not sure why I would be called a guard when I don’t look like any of the ones here, but apparently he wants to teach me the planetary language after we get enough of this ‘imperial’ basic language into my vocabulary. He brought some meat that looks vaguely familiar, but the smell is unmistakable. I don’t know what happened to the rest of the meat’s original body, but I imagine that it faced a similar fate to the meat the kiddo brought me. My home planet had a nasty problem due to the fact that people were dying at a rate that processing them into raw materials was the norm. Not my first time eating this stuff, but I don’t intend on letting it become a common occurrence. The stuff isn’t nutritious enough for a growing kid, and my diet is more nutrient dense than anything on this planet. Luckily I know how to change the tase and texture of meat so that this doesn’t become a craving for the boy. Apparently he calls himself something that I can’t type die to the lack of the correct way to say it. I have taken to using my cape as a cloak for him, and my spare as a cloak for myself. Mine’s a bit more worn out, but I have armor, the kid needs the better one. He’s also good at skinning the rats that he catches. Those are far easier to prepare, but it is concerning that he found my emergency knife and skinned a rat with it. It reminds me of a trait in a character from a game some of my old crew mates used to play, but I don’t remember which game it was. The kid is having a nightmare, I will add to this log of sorts later. I have to medicate his latest injuries anyways.

Day 3. Apparently my newly acquired child grows really fast. As in a few inches within a week fast. Luckily for both of us I have a bunch of emergency meals, and am capable of getting food from the wealthy without anyone noticing. Aside from the kid’s height, he seems to be concerned with this behavior, but in my opinion, between taking things that would be wasted on the wealthy and letting a child (no matter how strange) starve, the latter is the greater crime. Call me traitorous if you wish, but I intend to keep this kid alive. He seems intent on teaching me his language as well as learning mine. I have accepted that if anyone can see or hear these posts, you likely speak a very different language than I do, but if you can understand this, please let me know. That’s if anyone is even getting this.

Day 2. The kid found out how to force me to sleep. Gave him some of the honey as a treat because he found my sword, shovel, rifle, and medical bag. We have both had another ration bar, and the kid is starting to look less malnourished.
