I decided I wanted to be a witch when I was six years old and fell in love with sabrina. I had one friend with wiccan parents when I was thirteen and we would sneak pages of love spells and decode initials from apple peels. I would sit at the library and print pages and pages of google directory pages about correspondences and sabbats and every spell I could find. my mom thought it was evil so I watched buffy in secret on my brother’s tv with the volume on four and my finger on the mute button. I hid all my supplies (candles stolen from my mother’s stash, glass beads from wedding centerpieces, rough quartz in whatever shape I ever found it) in a trunk I kept hidden in my closet.

I married a man who thought my practice was silly and I put it down. I moved back to my parents house when we divorced, the same house where I had hidden my silly little beginnings of a practice a decade before, and I set my magic to the side thinking I was being an adult and rebuilding my life.

my life had other plans. I ran, and I crashed, I finally got sober. I started to let my practice back in, but it was always tucked in a corner. there, but not too close; present, but only in the gaps left by other things.

I was seized momentarily by insanity last week and bought furniture for a room I never thought I’d invest in. I’ve spent two days breaking and building and moving and sorting and settling, and the ache in my back is nothing for the energy I’ve been weaving into this room.

I am thirty four years old. my altar is becoming something I would have died to have in this space, permanently, all those years ago. just fuckin wild.

true story fallout is my lesser Bethesda franchise
