ever since the fall of castle cousland, alys is obsessed with reading people and anticipating their movements. she kept replaying any discussion she had with arl howe and the howe soldiers from the evening before in her head to find the detail what she had been missing, when they had told on themselves, and why and what she just did not notice. this was something that kept her up for many, many nights, but that also developed into her being hyperfixated on any tells, being it verbal or in their gestures, and to anticipate what people might do.

alys becomes obnoxiously good at reading people because of this, but this is not just a skill that remains solely positive. on her bad days, this might tip over into paranoia and fear and she can be obsessed with minuscule details that the speaker themselves mostly does not care about. why did they use that word instead of the other? why did they briefly look to the side when talking about that thing? etc.

however, i am currently still sick because i picked up some virus a week after joining the team, so I'm still getting healthy.

the issue is not when someone creates a self-insert ( as i honestly believe that every single person creating a character or adapting them at least gives them some part of themselves ) it's when people, via these characters, are imposing themselves upon other people. from what i've seen pretty often enough is that self-inserts are used as an almost therapeutic device or a way to have the favourite characters interact with an extension of the writer themselves interact with them and more often than not, romance them, fuss over them, and tell them how great they are. while this is something entirely different in fanfiction, it's weirdly intrusive to me. i ( mostly ) play OCs, but i've had it at least once with the canon muses I played that people who played a muse that was very similar to the mun in personality, appearance and opinions to fuss over them and care for them. ( this also happened for OCs lol ) or worse yet, fuck them.

this makes me extremely uncomfortable. as soon as i smell anything in that regard, meaning, if someone might play their muse as a self-insert, i immediately pull the plug. especially to protect myself.

now, for the other thing regarding the projecting; while i think it is absolutely fine to project onto characters ( i mean, who doesn't ), i have noticed again that people tend to make this other people's problems. headcanons are fun, and seeing yourself in your favourite character is also fun. however, using those headcanons to make your idea the absolute and the only correct interpretation is not fun and especially getting angry over people having different opinions and interpretations is harmful to a community. and it's not just single people, it's often enough the echo chamber convincing themselves that their interpretation is the correct one and getting angry that a creator might disagree. ( i mean it's... still their ip. ) but even if you disregard that, this is to me an extension of the personal bubble where everyone agrees with each other and this does not foster communication and basic social behaviour. the amount of really anti-social behaviour of people i've seen here in the rp community which should be, by default, a social space, is really something for another rant.
