people in the atla fandom really forget about aang’s anger, huh. they reduce his personality to careless joy, and they reduce his choices to pure pacifism and naiveté, when his behavior is not so two dimensional. aang has a bit of anger near his core, a product of grief, and his choices and behavior are all made despite this anger. he chooses to liberate himself from it. he chooses to be joyful, he chooses to be a pacifist. he chooses kindness and he does so even when he knows that the world will not approve, and it takes incredible internal strength to do so.

KATARA WATCHES AS HER BROTHER SPEARS ANOTHER FISH. the winter was closing in fast, the sun setting fast along the horizon. “ sokka, we should really head back. gran - gran might get worried. ” their little canoe shuttered and rocked with her older brother’s movements, and the school of fish the pair stumbled across were scattering with each stab of sokka’s spear. her hand reaches down and outwards over the water, and attempts to focus. the water below her rises slightly before falling, and katara sighs, half - frustrated with her failed efforts before glancing towards the basket of fish that was only partially filled.

THEY BARELY KNEW EACH OTHER AT THE BEGINNING. katara’s relationship with zuko’s older cousin was not extremely strong, though they were on friendly terms. as the southern tribe rebuilds, so does the relationship between the water tribes and the fire nation -- a long and rough road to traverse, but katara was ready to do so.

when the fire nation ship pulls into the newly constructed southern harbor, the water - bending master was waiting patiently in formal robes, though her smile was less - so. she is excited for lu ten’s visit, eager to see her newfound friend. behind her, the tribe members are hard at work, though they pause and watch as the silver ship appears at their winter - kissed shores.
