She had a legacy to keep up, and she felt that pressure early on. With a whole family of successful performers surrounding her, she’d felt a need to stand out among them all, so she’d learned to play the guitar early on. And then the piano. And then the drums. More and more and more. All of her siblings could sing or dance, but she went in a different direction.

She wasn’t sure how any of it could translate into an idol career, but her father helped her out-- he knew people at MM Ent, and hooked her up there, and within years, she was debuting as the leader of Harmony; a band, not a group.

That didn’t last, though. As well as they could play, it wasn’t enough, and they were forced to go the regular idol route. What hurt more was how much money they started making once they started acting like real idols-- people didn’t care about the music. They only cared about how much ass was being flaunted in the choreography.

junghwa was born november 13, 1995, to a middle-class couple in gwangju. her parents never decided to give junghwa any siblings, but she didn’t mind. she found companionship hanging out at the little cafe her parents owned. she would hang out there with the cafe employees’ kids because childcare was expensive, and it allowed parents to be sure that their kids were safe when they were working. though most business owners would be distasteful of a group of sticky kids hanging around the small cafe, junghwa’s parents didn’t mind. junghwa was happy, and their little cafe was like a family.

every day, practically 24/7, the cafe would offer live music. junghwa was entranced by the various musicians that would come in, and all she wanted to do was to play their instruments too. by the time she was six, she would trade the free cookies she got as the owners’ daughter for music lessons from the various artists who played at the cafe during their breaks.

by the time she was thirteen, junghwa had mastered the drums, was proficient in the bass guitar, and was just starting to learning to play the basic six-string guitar.

one night, a drummer for an act that her parents had booked for the evening didn’t show up. the band, knowing junghwa and knowing that she knew their songs, invited her to come perform with them. the girl was apprehensive about it; she had never performed before, and these were experienced musicians. but, she felt obligated to help out, so she performed a set.

that night, an MM executive was in town having a meal with their relatives in the oh family’s cafe, and she saw a small thirteen year old girl having the time of her life and playing completely naturally within a band of thirty-something year old men.

after junghwa finished her set, the MM executive approached junghwa and her parents and told them that MM would be very appreciative of junghwa’s talents. junghwa immediately said yes, and before she knew it, she was living in seoul and training to be a part of the nation’s next badass girl band.

during her three years of training, junghwa sharpened her skills in the instruments and learned how to sing. within the company, she became regarded as her group’s ace. junghwa didn’t necessarily like the attention. she didn’t want to be seen as any different from the other girls. she just wanted to play music.

when she was sixteen, she finally made her debut as harmony’s drummer. for a moment, it felt like every dream of hers had come true.

however, harmony’s failure to impact as a girl band made MM turn it into an idol group. junghwa was thrust into dance lessons and forced to become an idol.

junghwa is not ungrateful; she is happy that she has found success in the music industry as an idol, but there are times she wishes that she could be an unknown musician again. of all the girls in harmony, she is the one who has taken the switch (and the afterward MM-Tyme merger) the hardest.

despite her fierce image on stage (and slight resting bitch face), junghwa is actually a big softie. when she is not practicing, she is curled up in a corner reading a book or studying music theory. she is a very shy individual, even with the people that she is close to. with strangers, she stutters if she gets too nervous. with close friends, she speaks softly. on variety shows, she sits back and cheers on every member instead of trying to put herself out there. at this point, 360 has stopped trying to get her to open up. the only thing that can get her out of her shell is her talking about music. as a result of her soft demeanor, junghwa tends to be more of a follower than a leader, and struggles with making decisions on her own.

Growing up, it never seemed like Jinhwan was allowed to stay in one place for very long. Though his family was originally from Busan, Jinhwan was born in Osaka, Japan. After his third birthday, the family moved to Shanghai, China, where they lived for slightly over six years until moving back to Japan, this time to Tokyo.

To Jinhwan it felt like he had finally started to make friends at the school he went to, only to have to return to a country that he could barely remember being in the first place. But when it came to the Im family, his father’s job at a large international company always took importance, and it was that which caused them to move so often.

It was in Tokyo that Jinhwan started dancing. A few boys in the grades above him had noticed that he was struggling to fit in with the other kids his age and must have pitied him, because it wasn’t long after that they were inviting him to hangout with him instead of having to stay on the outskirts with his classmates in his grade.

Within only a few weeks since moving back to Japan, it sometimes seemed to Jinhwan like he had always been with those boys, and dancing came even more naturally to him than hanging out with them was. He had never found a group of people that he actually felt like he belonged in before, and had also never found something that he loved so much before they introduced him to dancing. It wasn’t dancing like he had occasionally seen before at his school in China, which was almost entirely traditional and seemed so foreign to him, even though he was really the one that was foreign to them.

But only a little more than three years later, they had to move again. If someone had asked the then-thirteen-years-old Jinhwan where he and his family were moving, Vienna, Austria, would have probably been very low on his list, but that’s where he was being uprooted for a second time to move to. Jinhwan didn’t want to leave Tokyo, he loved the friends he had made and dancing with them. He didn’t want to try to rebuild all of that in some other place he had never thought twice about before, but as always, Jinhwan didn’t have a choice.

The move to Vienna was a bigger culture shock that he could have ever imagined. Unlike they had in Shanghai or Tokyo, his parents decided to enroll Jinhwan and his siblings in an international school, which Jinhwan couldn’t discern at the time whether it was because they didn’t want to make them go to schools which taught in a language they were completely unfamiliar with, or if it was because the family wasn’t going to stay there for very long.

The few other Korean kids at the international school in Vienna had first expected him to know everything about what was popular there like they did, they didn’t expect him to know more about Japan and China than he did Korea. Jinhwan had rarely been in there for more than a few weeks at a time to visit his extended family, he barely had listened to groups like Juliette or Empire any more than their European classmates had at the time.

Just when Jinhwan was starting to feel like he could actually call Vienna home, his family had to move again, this time to London. He had nothing against London, but having to move to often was starting to take its toll on him. It didn’t help that barely eight months later, his father was already beginning to talk about moving somewhere else for the fifth time since Jinhwan was born.

His family was either going to move to Australia or the Philippines, and though both countries seemed interesting enough to Jinhwan, he was tired of moving so often. He had gotten so close to his friends in Tokyo before having to leave them, and had to repeat the same painful process again when they left Vienna. He was tired of always being the most out of place no matter where he was, and he was tired of leaving anything that started to feel familiar behind almost as soon as he found them.

When 360 Studios was holding open auditions in London, Jinhwan decided to go, though he chose not to tell his family beforehand. Jinhwan figured he had nothing to lose, it wasn’t like he was going to stay there much longer even if he didn’t pass the auditions. But to his relief, Jinhwan passed, and soon afterwards was invited by 360 to train with them in Seoul.

Though it was slightly uncomfortable for Jinhwan to tell his family that he would be leaving London without them, there was nothing that he would let stop him from joining 360. It wasn’t hard for Jinhwan to pack up his life, he already had to do so four times already. After arriving in Seoul, Jinhwan was able to debut as the lead dancer of Deviant after around two years of training.

Frankie was born to be a star, that much was always obvious. From the way she danced at any opportunity she had, or stealing any and all attention, it was undeniable that she was destined for the limelight.

She started off as a child actress, appearing in commercials or the odd three second shot in a TV show. Her parents were content with that; it sedated her desire to have focus on her but it didn’t wholly take away her having a normal childhood. As she got older the whole thing wore off and she focused on her studies, picking up the guitar as a hobby instead.

Getting into the Korean music industry was a curse for Frankie, really. Immediately she wanted to become an idol in her pre-teen age and forced her parents to relocate with her to fulfil it. She auditioned for a load of companies, singing and playing the guitar, failing all of them. She was about to give up when MM Entertainment took her under their wing. She trained with them and eventually debuted in Harmony.

Having a good voice was all Kyunyeol really had. He was socially awkward, close only to his family and brothers, was average at school and was, for a lack of better words, plain. Most people would write him off, saving him only when they heard his voice.

Nobody expected him to audition for entertainment companies, let alone getting callbacks and having actual interest being taken into him. His parents were overjoyed, happy that their son was pursuing something he wanted. Some people doubted him, but he really did want to give idoldom a shot.

Signing with MM Entertainment seemed like a good plan - he could play the piano and could sing well; if they wanted to debut him in a band then he’d be fine but, likewise, if they wanted to debut a male idol group, he knew he could push through his dance difficulties.

Coming from Australia to Korea when she was seven years old, Cheyenne Son begun a journey of a lifetime when she was casted by Spotlight Productions a few months after coming to Korea. Obviously at the young age of seven it was highly unlikely for her to debut in any group any time soon and thus she went straight into training.

As she grew older her training became more intense, especially when early rumours started floating around that there would be a new Spotlight girl group coming out soon. In 2013, Cheyenne was placed into a group of female trainees who would later go on to debut as Iris. Cheyenne however was cut from the final lineup and her spirits were crushed.

Watching as all the friends she had made got to debut in 2014, she wanted to be happy for them, but she just couldn’t. This prompted her to leave Spotlight Productions as she didn’t see there being any other chance for her to debut.

Shortly after leaving Spotlight her mother pushed her to not give up on her dream, which lead to her auditioning for 360 Studios. After being accepted and a very short trainee period, Cheyenne finally accomplished her dream when she debuted as Shea in the girl group Toxxik.

Shea is definitely one of those idols whose idol-persona is vastly different then who they are in real life, although the water can be muddy at times and Cheyenne slips through the cracks. When on stage, Shea is a confident performer who’ll stop at nothing to put on a good show for the viewers. She’s charismatic and has a lot of passion for what she does and it shows in every performance. There is potential there for her to be sassy and sarcastic, being known as the one to tease the other members in a funny way.

When Cheyenne slips through it’s definitely obvious as her charismatic exterior cracks and shows a goofball who loves anything pink and soft. She’s very much so a giggly teenager and’ll laugh at almost anything, especially during awkward situations when she doesn’t know the best way to react.

Goo Suji was born in Busan, South Korea on October 15th, 1991. Her parents were already well known in the music industry. Her father a renown rockstar while her mother rose from the unground rap-scene to mainstream success.

As she grew up; suji followed her parents’ footsteps. Falling in love with music; mainly classical, metal, and hip-hop. She began singing at the age of 5. She got her first instrument, a violin when she was 5. Then later she was given her second instrument, a guitar when she was 8. Her parents would spoil her and would give her anything she asked for. Even allowing her to begin acting and modeling.

Growing up in the limelight isn’t always glitz and glamor. Thousands of prying eyes were on her at all times. Threatened or harassment just because of her lineage. Or worse obsessing over a child.

Her home life wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows either. Her father would often lash out at her and her mother. Often blaming them for whatever was going wrong in his life. It would often become unbearable that music was the only thing that truly gave her comfort during those times. A year from finishing primary school; her mother finally had enough, divorcing her father and moving to Seoul, bringing suji along.

After finishing primary school; at the age of 13, she auditioned for MM Entertainment and was accepted. Trainee life was hard, but she didn’t care. Music was her passion. That and she wanted to prove the other trainees wrong who always gave her glares just because of who her parents were. She wanted to show them that she didn’t need to rely on them to be successful.

Her hard work finally paid off. As she found herself debuting in MM’s Harmony. Originally as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist before the band was turned into a full-fledged idol girl group. The transition didn’t bother her too much. As she enjoyed dancing as well, including the transition into 360. Keeping a cool head and tried her best to help the girls that weren’t. Seeing the success that Harmony was getting, she knew that she made it that she’ll finally be able to connect to others with music. Yeah, this is something that she’ll do until the day she dies.

Suji is known to fans as the Ice Queen. Mainly for her stoic facial expressions and glares that she gives to antis. During music shows or varieties she observes; only speaking when spoken to. And isn’t afraid to be honest and blunt no matter the situation. She has displayed her blunt honesty multiple times on television, and her curt responses usually instigate a variety of responses. However, Suji’s “Actual” personality has been described by fellow friends and members to be naturally cute and sweet, and that her “ice princess” image is mainly because she has trouble expressing her emotions and is just a socially awkward girl. She is fiercely protective and loyal to her members as well as fans. Suji is honestly a sweetheart: she cares for Harmony. It is to not take her kindness as a weakness. As she’ll have no problem chewing out those who do.

Ilhyeon is kind of a prodigy. He was surrounded by music from an young age, and grew up with it. His mom taught him how to play the guitar, his dad taught him the piano, and his older brother taught him the drums. He taught himself to sing; that was the skill that came naturally. But he was very adept in these fields, and his parents recognized that, signing him up to the nearest entertainment agency so they could see him shine. He started training when he was 15, though he had an advantage over all the other new trainees. He focused on vocals and dancing, since those were the skills that would get him in a group, though he had to wait until his company had amassed enough members to debut with. That didn’t last long, though-- it imploded, and he was picked up by MM, where his music prowess was an asset

Tae-Kyeo is a product of a night gone wrong. His mom was the assistant of a wealthy (and married) businessman who tended to treat her to dinner quite often whenever he managed to close deals. However one night their sobriety had gotten away from them which ultimately resulted in Tae-Kyeo being conceived.

After finding a job elsewhere, Tae-Kyeo was born in a single parent household without a father figure. His mom eventually married an actor who wanted nothing to do with Tae-Kyeo and he was essentially cast out of the family after his mom gave birth to a little girl when Tae-Kyeo was five.

Aside from making sure Tae-Kyeo went to school everyday and making sure he was fed, neither his mom or step-dad could have cared what Tae-Kyeo did as all their attention was on his little sister. He often found solitude at his friend’s house, spending most of his youth there.

Tae-Kyeo honestly had no interest in pursuing any sort of career in the idol world, that is until he was casted off the streets by Three Sixty Studios when he was twelve. It was there that Tae-Kyeo realized how much he enjoyed singing and dancing, ultimately using it as an escape from his old life as a neglected child.

Tae-Kyeo originally was training to debut in a dance oriented group, but three months before the debut of Reset he was switched over and joined the band styled group. Tae-Kyeo felt like debuting in a band was a waste of half of his talent and especially all the time he spent practicing in dance. It really took away the happiness and joy most would feel upon debut. To this day, Tae-Kyeo never told his parents that he was debuting as an idol.

Although he may seem reserved and cold at times, it’s more so because he’s shy and prefers to stay within the confines that he knows best. This isn’t necessarily the most ideal personality type for an idol so he often times finds himself having to pretend that he’s fine and isn’t afraid to talk to everyone.

Due to being neglected in favour of his sister for the vast majority of his life, Tae-Kyeo often feels like he’s never good enough for anybody and that nothing he can ever do is good enough to make anybody proud. Being an idol was the first time he ever felt even the slightest bit of being wanted as he was able to please masses of people by singing. Although he should be happy that he gets to make tons of fans proud, he often times gets in his own head and scares himself into seclusion.
