Frozen Thoughts

I'm not going to hand this one off, nor am I going to delete it, but... I'm tired. I honestly lost my anti-Frozen feelings a long time ago, but kept running this for you all, but I'm running on fumes at this point, and arguing with people just makes me so exhausted and anxious anymore.

I think I'll be taking a leave of absence until Frozen 2 comes out, when I'm sure I'll have plenty of thoughts on that. If I feel so inspired, I may return before then.

Lack of conscience? I could believe that. But a personality disorder? Extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior? What movie did you watch? Hans showed no signs of these things whatsoever.

Jennifer Lee also called herself a sociopath when she also has showed zero signs of any of this, so if the above didn’t make you think she was full of shit, this should.

This is how Jennifer described Hans. “He’s very talented. He’s charming. He mirrors everyone. And actually the original story had a lot to do with mirrors. And in many iterations of the story we talk about mirrors and we bring them up. And so I held on a little to that, what Hans is is a mirror as a lot of charming, but hallow or sociopathic… he mirrors [Anna] and he’s goofy with her. He’s a little bit more bold and aggressive with the Duke, because the Duke is a jerk, so he’s a jerk back. And with Elsa he’s a hero.”

You have no idea what can of worms you just opened. I’m seriously pissed off right now. 

I know how Jennifer Lee described Hans. This blog has existed since July 2014. I have had plenty of time to thoroughly analyze this movie and read what its directors have said about it.

Did you actually read my response. Did you actually. Or is your reading comprehension that bad. I literally explained why Jennifer Lee and the other writers have literally NO UNDERSTANDING of actual sociopathy WHATSOEVER. As someone who actually has an extremely high possibility of having several personality disorders, including antisocial personality disorder (aka SOCIOPATHY), I find their words highly offensive and ignorant.

TL;DR: “But the writers said–” I. DON’T. GIVE. A. FUCK. When the writers have shown themselves to be as disgustingly ignorant yet still arrogant enough to think they can still talk about mental illnesses such as sociopathy, they have lost all credibility. Period. 

You want to put ignorant writers’ words over a basic, MEDICAL definition of actual sociopathy, and somehow I’M st*pid?

What JLee described is a guy who’s good at manipulating and fooling others. NOT SOCIOPATHY. Holy shit, this is exactly why mentally ill people get a bad rap, because neurotypicals just LOVE to associate mental illness with abusive and otherwise bad behavior.

The characterization in Frozen was literally awful. No, the book isn’t canon–as much as I wish it were, that much I will admit–but having read and analyzed it and the movie many times, I can say that the book was written thousands of times better, gave the characters real personalities, real reactions to events, and real motives and sympathies. The book may not be “canon,” but its canon had far better writing, worldbuilding, and characterization than the movie’s.

This will be my last response, because I am beyond pissed right now, not just at you but at Frozen’s directors. I am done with your “the writers are always right!” attitude because it is absolutely false and, as your response to this confession clearly shows, can lead to some dangerous conclusions about what mental illness actually looks like.

If you want to treat the writers’ words as the word of God, fine. But don’t get defensive when people like me get rightfully angry at you for just eating up what obviously ignorant people say about mental illness.

I already said “If you want to argue that he’s not a true sociopath or whatever under that description, fine” but that doesn’t make Hans some poor misunderstood “abuse victim.” 

Disney does not make movies for children. They make movies for everyone. Walt himself said that.

No, I wouldn’t love Disney more if I “didn’t over analyze it all.” Why is it people only say that when the “overanalysis” is negative? What about the people who go through every movie and look at every tiny insignificant detail and it seem like it’s vital to the story, hmmm? Do you go and tell them that they’re overanalyzing and that they’d love Disney more if they didn’t?

Furthermore, what I did wasn’t even an analysis. It was correcting someone on their dangerous assumptions about a personality disorder that actually exists, and why you shouldn’t accept everything that comes out of a director’s mouth. Both things are frankly incredibly important for the real world–you should never make assumptions about mental issues you know nothing about, and you should never believe anything that just comes out of someone’s mouth unless you can confirm it right then and there.

That sounds like a person who doesn’t have an actual rebuttal, so they just decide to belittle their opponent instead.

Hate to break it to ya, honey, but Disney movies aren’t (normally) a mile-wide, inch-deep kind of thing. They have explicit and implicit messages and have been made from the very beginning to teach and tell coherent, well-written stories. Disney has inspired so many people and you just wanna be like “LOL LOOK AT THESE PEOPLE GETTING DEFENSIVE OVER IT!!!!”

I’m defensive over my thoughts on Frozen because Disney can do way better and has done so. I’m defensive because I’ve been told so many times that my opinion isn’t valid because I’m “just a hater” (which isn’t even the case, I actually enjoy Frozen a fair bit and Elsa is one of my favorite characters, but that’s beside the point). I’m defensive because people like you make fun of me when I jump in on discussions like these that involve Frozen and a serious subject like sociopathy/antisocial personality disorder.

Literally how the fuck do you read the conversation between me and sexyfrollo and think I’m just overanalyzing shit? All I can conclude is that you saw a wall of text, read “anti frozen” in the tags, and decided I was a pathetic loser with too much time on her hands.

In reality, the discourse between me and sexyfrollo was barely even about Frozen; it was about telling someone to shut the fuck up about a mental disorder (that I display many symptoms of) that they clearly knew nothing about. And you still want to say I’m just being defensive over a Disney movie.
