✯ last book i read: I just finished The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You by Neko Case. I listened to her reading it on audiobook and it was SO good, with so many memorable passages and imagery. She's seriously so amazing and inspirational.

✯ a book i'd recommend: I totally recommend Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg to any of my queer friends (especially my trans, butch, and/or dyke friends). It's definitely widely recommended in these spaces but it was so good. I was crying over this book at the airport LOL.

✯ book i couldn't put down: Not to re-use the same book (I can't really sing Feinberg's praises enough) I read most of Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg in a 48 hour period.

✯ book on my tbr: Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands by Kate Beaton. I'm actually a massive fan of graphic novels and the art department head at my university recommended this one to me. I really should read it soon!

✯ a book i've put down: Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead, to be honest, I like the prose style a lot but I didn't really enjoy the pacing for what it was advertised as. If the author hadn't saved the most anticipated part of the novel for the last 50-odd pages, I might have been more keen to finish it. But also, I'm so close to the end, maybe I'll read it out of defeat.

✯ a book on my wishlist: Probably one of the new Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales graphic novels -- they're aimed for an audience younger than myself but Hale is truly a talented author. artist, and storyteller. I've even seen him draw/talk live and have a signed copy of his book One Trick Pony, too!

✯ favourite book from childhood: I was definitely a Percy Jackson series kid.... is it a cop-out to say the first series on this one? Reading the Hunger Games at age 9 (LOL) was also pretty formative because it made me start writing. And I guess honorable mention for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea because, well, it is formative media for me.

✯ a book i'd give to a friend: Beyond a lot of these on the list, I read The Country Under Heaven by Frederic S Durbin a few months ago and quite enjoyed it as a little episodic novel, and I think I'd be happy to give this to a friend who would enjoy anything western and mysterious.

✯ book of poetry or lyric that i own: You Better Be Lightning by Andrea Gibson. I haven't really gotten all the way into it yet, but Andrea Gibson's poetry deserves all the praise it gets.

✯ what i'm currently reading: Currently re-reading The Sea Wolf by Jack London, which I usually consider my favorite book. The first half is So good!!! The second half is... ripe for criticism, but that's part of the appeal for me at this point. I've also been listening to Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy while at the gym.

✯ what i'm planning on reading next: North Sun, Or, The Voyage of the Whaleship Esther by Ethan Rutherford. I got it before the research cruise but never read it on board, so it's on my desk now.
