Korean and American societies are completely different and totally opposite!Just a small, little example out of the millions of differences:American society teaches you that “everyone is beautiful the way they are”, “flaws are beautiful”, “imperfection is beautiful”, “it’s ok to be imperfect”, “it’s ok to be different”, “being fat is not unhealthy” (I have to roll my eyes at all these things.. because America is the country with the biggest percent of obese people in the world and so many people die of diabetes, cancer, heart attacks and what not.. and that’s so sad and unnecessary and could easily be fixed! the problem is exactly in this mentality that “oh you’re fat? great you’re gorgeous sister/brother work it~~” … until they get sick.. //shakes head//) American people are busy with topics such as feminism (which has gone wild and literally denies girl’s nature now and frowns upon being feminine and cute and girly “because pATRIARCHY AND MEN ARE EVIL” //shakes head again//, gay rights and bla bla bla I don’t even know what else.. And it’s all about individualism, and being different and there’s practically no censure on anything, American movies are full of perversion, sex scenes, horrible immorality, inappropriate jokes, and it’s pretty much all about sex, drugs, violence, or some kind of stupid super heroes and horror films and stuff..When you grow up in such a society of course that you will fight for gay rights and be this kind of feminist and think like an American and act like an American and curse like an American…and be aggressive and rude.. Literally all the American people I’ve encountered are so angry, aggressive and rude and scary..

While Korean society is the TOTAL OPPOSITE!!In Korea there are strict beauty standards, there are certain features that are praised and considered beautiful! Pale skin, small face, 쌍꺼풀 (double eyelids), V-shaped chin, 애교살 (cute eye bags ㅋㅋ), big eyes, etc~ all these things are desired! Many people even get plastic surgeries to achieve this look!Korea always strives towards health, youth and beauty.High school girls in Korea are very different from High school girls in America- Korean or non Korean! Even the make up style is different!They learn different things in school and this also influences the way they think.Also Korean children learn to respect the elders in the society from a very, very young age. They wear uniforms in High School, and in Korea to be “different” is an awful thing! No one wants to be different!Also there’s a censure on sexual things. Have you even watched Korean dramas or National television?? I am watching Korean dramas since 5 years and until this day I have never seen anything inappropriate in a Korean drama. And trust me I’ve sen SO.MANY.DRAMAS in 5 years!!This is why I adore Korea. Because there are values and moral in Korean dramas, they’re just beautiful.. They’re so pure and always about pure and innocent love, friendship, kindness, the characters are always ready to die for one another without thinking about themselves, there are true heroes, there’s loyalty and friendship, and kindness and so many things touch my heart. And there’s just sense in these dramas!! They teach you so many things! I love especially historical and fantasy dramas!I do not think that Korea is perfect and that there are no problems and bad things there but as I said - I always focus on the good things and ignore the bad.

Anyways~~~ it’s too different.Homosexuality is a taboo in Korea and people don’t even care or want or talk about it, but unfortunately too many Americans are going there and shoving their culture in Korea now.. And Korean people tell each other things like “You are fat!” ㅋㅋㅋㅋ or “You’ve gained weight! Are you stressed? Is everything ok? Do you get enough sleep?” and things like that and that’s totally fine and appropriate! ^^Because this criticism keeps them healthy! And they ask out of genuine concern and want to help if someone has a problem! They are just worried! ^^ I love this blunt honesty about them! ㅋㅋㅋㅋ maybe because I’m skinny and I don’t get to be called fat but my mind is like that too! I have a very critical mind! I always criticize myself for everything - from my looks to my personality, to every detail of my face because I want to be perfect! If I gain even 1 kilogram I would start saying “Oh no I have to get a better sleep!” and immediately lose it when I sleep well ㅋㅋㅋ and then I feel so much healthier and happier!

But in America if you want to ask someone out of concern “You are fat! Are you ok? Is there something wrong? Are you stressed? Are you depressed? Are you healthy?”Oh boy. Then this same group of social fighters that hate on me now will literally skin you alive, burn you alive, eat you alive and start cursing you and calling you a murderer and with every lowly word they know.. Same if you have a different opinion on their feminism, or on LGBTQAHshdjdjdjdj whatever it is~ even though your religion is AGAINST IT and so many such things..But my culture is different so don’t expect me to be like you. Religion is the most important thing. Do you see the differences already?

All the Korean people born in Korea that I’ve met are so different from these Korean people here!

As I said they are so so so happy when I show interest in their country, and when I start talking about how much I love Korea and Korean food and dramas and Korean music and Korean cosmetics, etc~ they start complimenting my country too and showing interest in it and wanting to learn more about it, they are so kind and honest and so respectful like ANY OTHER PEOPLE AREN’T ..that I’ve met before!! I’ve been to England too and nobody was like that there. Yes, English people are very polite too but it’s not the same..All the Korean people (born in Korea) that I’ve met are so friendly and warm-hearted and easy-going.. And I feel so comfortable with them.I can actually obsess about Korean groups with them and they 1. either find it cute but don’t really care about the groups or 2. obsess about the groups with me (girls do not boys ㅋㅋ) … I can say all kinds of silly things and literally talk about the most childish things and be my 6-year-old-self and it’s fine! I can act cute all I want and speak in a baby voice and that’s praised and encouraged and considered charming and cute and boys love it.Like I said I am a very delicate, sensitive, shy and fragile person. I love innocence and purity, it’s in my nature, but in the western society you can’t be fragile and sensitive and delicate and shy. Because everyone require of you to be serious, responsible, tough and outgoing and I’m just not like that..And so I feel so comfortable with Korean people because..They just never take anything in a negative way!!! And these Korean Americans take EVERYTHING in a negative way and feel insulted by EVERYTHING and are so aggressive and rude and you’re telling me that they’re not different! Please! I am terrified and horrified of them.

The Korean people in Korea don’t even know a term such as “Koreaboo” and if they hear it they will automatically think it’s something good and positive! That term is so hurtful and deteriorating and stupid and made by Americans who just want to hate everyone and mock everyone, because their lives are so sad and full of spite and hate because of their messed up society and lack of values, moral, respect and humility! Anyways.

It all started when I felt hurt by someone else’s comment too and exactly by the term “Koreaboo” and wrote a sincere, similar to your, message, expressing that this is hurtful to me and that I am so disappointed in western society and I find so much beauty in Asia and especially Korea, but that Korean American person replied in a horrible manner! She screenshot my messages and publicly humiliated me by dismissing my honesty and sincerity and hurt by her use of words, stating something like “I’m drinking coffee and I’m tired it’s not my problem, it’s the least of my concerns, I have my own problems”. This is extremely rude! I did not even expect that anyone could do such thing!! I was literally shocked. My messages were too personal and when she posted them publicly I did not feel comfortable knowing that anyone can read them. It’s still beyond me how can a person not estimate and figure that something like this should not be posted publicly.. This is just beyond me.. I was not anonymous because I thought that I was talking to an intelligent and bright person. And she should have just replied to me privately like any normal person would have done! I just wanted to share that sometimes things can be hard no matter what race you are and where you live.. And just because you are hurt that doesn’t mean that you have the right to hurt other people too. And that everyone has battles. But she was just like “It’s about me not you”… And then all these hyenas-like people started attacking me, accusing me, mocking me, judging me without knowing anything about me or about my heart or anything.. assuming things, cursing me on anon.. and they still do..

There isn’t just a somewhat negative image of the Filipinos. There are whole websites and memes and artwork and yellow/brownface against Filipinos that portray our people so rudely that it makes my blood boil thinking about it. If we’re using the argument of the many kinds of Asian ethnic groups vs that of Filipinos, there is an embedded factors of colorism/shadeism and white/European colonialism that go hand in hand. 

From a historic standpoint, most indigenous Filipinos (from Aetas to Austronesians, in any case) were black and brown. When the Spanish came to colonize us and the Japanese and the Americans, they brought along their oppressive standards and subjugated our people to a life of servitude and self hate that’s still relevant today. 

Nowadays, you see Filipinos being praised for their “resilience” and “compassion” and “welcoming spirit” and at the same time, you see our people mocked, either by fellow Filipinos or non-Filipinos, for the way we speak, how we’re “not Asian enough” because we’re too brown or black to be considered “Asian”. Other Asian groups benefit from Filipinos being mistreated whether it’s a financial gain or a superior power type gain (politically, socially, economically…). 

We’re hated on so much and with a disconnect to our ancestors and way of life, there isn’t a majority of Filipinos who will fight back or care. After hundreds of years of being mistreated, many just want to quit and can you blame them? That’s why they find this high road of “oh, if I marry a white/Japanese/Korean person, our kids won’t have a bad life” and these sick people take advantage of that and fetishize us. Anyway, I’m done on this. Y’all can comment and let me know since I always brush over some extra stuff.
