if i had a dollar for every ounce of rage i felt in my body after i read this comment i would have enough money to buy a cannon to fire at you

Victor Frankenstein after achieving the impossible and building a fucking person from scraps of the dead: Oh god, ew, ew it's ugly! Yucky! Yucky! Gross! Ew! Ew! Yucky! Yucky! Gross! Ew!
Do you ever think about how, for the vast vast majority of human history, up until like 70 years ago, and still for a huge portion of the world today, going to the bathroom, something you need to do every single day from your birth until you breathe your last, was just fucking awful? Like, Iβll be the first to admit I donβt know how they used to do it everywhere, but before modern privies, it was outhouses and latrines, chamber pots and cesspits, no privacy, no ass wipes, no laxatives or costive agents. Just man vs nature. Sometimes I forget but right now Iβd like to remember and be filled with gratitude that I live in the age of having a whole room in my house dedicated to my comfort and ease during the evacuation process of bodily waste. And my sincerest condolences to every human being before me that shit in a field or pissed on their socks never knowing that a better world was to come.
oversharing online is so important cus like what if someone needed to know that

before trump and the creation of ANTIFA as a boogeyman, the fbi listed animal liberation and 'eco-terrorism' as the number 1 domestic terror threat.
todayβs the only day you can reblog this
βThere Will Come Soft Rainsβ, Ray Bradbury
Reposting this coz i saw it in my camera roll again this is by far one of the funniest interactions ive come across on ao3
I mean, the major secondary theme in Anastasia is that reality is complicated and you can't go around thinking of people in black and white. Nicholas was an objectively horrible ruler who cost the lives of millions. But he was not intentionally bloodthirsty.
Anya remembers him as a wonderful father, because he was. Gleb remembers him as an oppressor who cost millions of lives and kept millions of more Russians in horrific poverty, because he did. Those things exist simultaneously. Those are both valid perspectives.
You rarely see musicals embrace moral ambiguity, and that's one of my favorite things about Anastasia. Gleb's mindset gets cracked open when Anya, a girl he found trembling in the streets, someone he considered a victim with no agency, is actually Anastasia, someone he thought was an oppressor. You can't square people into categories this way. It just doesn't work.
And you also have this really creative dynamic with Gleb, Dima, and Anya and their fathers. Gleb honors his father by doing the exact same thing as him, including making the same mistakes. Dmitry and Anya, however, honor their fathers by choosing new paths. That's not something you see very often and it is soooo clever.
well said, anon. dead fathers, and their legacies they left, haunt this show in every line. and i think this show concludes that we don't have to be our fathers!! and that's okay!!! how unique and wonderful and relieving is that?
the anya/dmitry/gleb parallel is one of my favorite aspects of this musical. it's so intentional and so subtle and so clever. i've never seen anything like it before and doubt i will again any time soon. i've said it before, but putting the neva flows and my petersburg back to back and having anya present and singing a single verse in both songs is so!!!!!! it's so. compelling. that wasn't a coincidence. we're supposed to read the subtext: anya is asking, 'what am i supposed to do with this if i'm really the tsar's daughter???'
more than anything, anastasia is about autonomy. not everyone gets to be blameless. not everyone gets to be born into a life of privilege, either, nor do they get to be born without a messy and bloody family history. what matters is how we choose to live our lives here going forwards. we make our own circumstances, as dmitry's father says.
Not now, kitten, m- da- m- your parental figure is in the middle of a gender crisis

I'm gonna say it, I do think that even the laziest person imaginable should have a roof over their head, food in their stomach, and access to healthcare
a lot of people are reblogging this saying that most "lazy" people are actually just disabled or that the concept of laziness itself is a product of our society's obsession with productivity. this is all true, but it is not my point.
even if someone WAS just lazy and simply didn't want to do anything but lie on the couch and watch tv, they should still have these things. it's irrelevant whether some people aren't actually lazy because everyone, including hypothetical lazy people, should have their basic needs met.
if we have the resources to do it, there is no defense of letting people die because they don't want to work, and much less because they can't.
I don't want lazy people to have basic necessities because they "actually" deserve them because they ARE working or CAN'T work. I want lazy people to have basic necessities because they are people, and we shouldn't leave them to die when we have the resources not to.

the fact that all the same actors are in all the movies nowadays is a product of the rising culture of anti-intellectualism in film and other creative spaces, in this essay i will-
and also the reason we keep on getting slop sequels as the big films of the year, instead of new movies from new directors/writer, with new actors
and this is all a product of late-stage capitalism
