I learned about this moth when I saw a Great Crested Flycatcher with one. It ate the abdomen, and shook off the upper half which fell to the ground. The moth has cryptic colors on the upper side of the forewing, and bright patterns underneath, which I assume are meant to serve an aposematic function, but it didn't work on the flycatcher I guess.

The Black Witch Moth for moth week - I saw this one recently at Latta Nature Preserve and wasn't aware it existed until then. It portends good luck! Or bad luck, depending on the tradition. Apparently it shimmers with iridescent blue tones in certain lights.
