Things I Have Waffled

Banana bread. Also banana bread batter and brownie batter together. Genius, if I do say so myself.

Leftover lunch

Lasagna waffles made with egg roll wrappers. Filling: ricotta/egg/cottage cheese layer, mozzarella layer. Side: sweet basil tomato sauce.

Egg nog French toast waffles!

The only way to do leftovers.

Rare roast beef, horseradish cheddar, and puff pastry. BOOM.

Cheesesteak puffle! Puff pastry waffle with shaved pub steak and provolone.

Or, if you'd rather melt the cheese curds than incorporate them, prop your waffle iron open and fake-broil that shit.

Waffled poutine. Yes, those cheese curds are cooked right into the squares, and the gravy fills 'em up. Doesn't look like much, but tastes like joy.

You know what's a pain in the ass? Making actual waffles.

An epic waffling fail, but it has to be said: still delicious.

So I thought, what if a chicken salad sandwich's bread was bread crumbs, and the sandwich was waffled? Delicious, that's what.

Verdict: potatoes crisped up better than anticipated, and in a fraction of the time it takes in the oven. The burger, while delicious and speedy, resulted in spattering fat in the iron even after draining much of it off while cooking.

So it seems only fair that I share the not-so-successful wafflings along with the wins, right? And actually, this pic does not do this #wafflefail justice - there was a whole lot of falling-apart-ness that you can’t see here. Suffice it to say, Less Is More. (this sandwich says less turkey and less cheese and less butter, guuurrrllllll; split that into TWO)

At first a terrible failure, waffled brownies became my biggest hit once I figured out the trick. If you’re one of those people who likes the edge pieces best? This is the way to go.

I have come to the sad conclusion that most biscuit/croissant dough waffling just doesn't do it for me. Too much bread, not enough other stuff. Thankfully (and unsurprisingly), the boy LOVES them. This was shredded pizza cheese and sandwich sliced pepperoni inside Pillsbury croissant rounds. Topped with Marinara.
