March 28th, 2018 (A long lucid dream)
I was in my parent’s car, sitting in the backseat, and they pulled it into our garage. Out the window, I saw a reddish brown guinea pig sitting on a small pile of flat cardboard boxes. I asked my parents if I could go get it, and they reluctantly said yes. Trying to catch the guinea pig was difficult. It was dark in the garage, and my cat, Louise was also searching around the garage, and I didn’t want her to hurt the guinea pig. Finally, I caught the guinea pig and brought it inside and up to my bedroom where I expected to find a guinea pig cage with some other guinea pigs in it. I did not see a guinea in cage, and when I looked at the animal in my arms, it had become a small kitten.
I went downstairs into the kitchen area, between the breakfast bar and the living room, and I told my parents that the guinea pig had become a cat and that the cat looked like it could be one of Louise’s kittens (although that would be impossible, since Louise was fixed when she was too young to have had kittens). Telling my parents about the guinea pig turning into a cat is what made me become lucid. I excitedly told them, “This is a dream!” They were excited too. My dad said, “I wonder if we are real and also dreaming!” I said, “I wonder that too.” And he said, “Maybe sometimes people in dreams are real but not always.” My mom and I agreed. (I now realize I was basically talking to myself.) I then noticed that my dad was missing some teeth and I said, “In real life, my dad has more teeth.” My dad in the dream said, “Oh!” and he grew more teeth. Then Cocoa (my Chihuahua who passed away almost a year ago and who is in my dreams a lot) walked into the kitchen from the living room, and I said, “Hi, Cocoa!”
That’s when it started to thunder storm outside, and a helicopter appeared. Someone with an assault rifle started shooting into our house. My dad was sitting on the counter next to the sink, and he had large, helmet shaped headphones on, so he didn’t know to duck. He got shot in the back and fell back into the sink. My mom screamed in horror. Somehow, I stayed calm, said, “it’s okay; I will fix it,” and walked to the backdoor. Before opening the door, I said outloud, “when I go outside, they will tell me this was all a joke.” I opened the door and a tall woman with sandy blonde hair told me it was all a joke. I said, “you thought we were having a party here and you were just trying to scare us?” She said, “yeah!” and then everyone left.
When I went back inside, my dad was still dying in the sink. I went over and put my hand on his chest where the bullet wound was. A little less confidently this time, I looked away and said, “when I look back, you will be healed.” I looked back and my dad breathed in life and sat up a bit, but he kind of looked like a zombie with grayish skin and completely black eyes. I looked away again and said, “when I look back, you will have your normal brain.” I looked back and his skin looked more normal and his eyes changed from all black to just grey. He sat up more and smiled slightly. My mom looked happy. I decided to leave before I found out if it worked completely, because I didn’t want to know if I had failed and I knew it was a dream anyway.
When I got to my front door I said out loud, “When I open the door, it will be a bright and sunny day.” I was a little less confident in my lucid dream powers after the struggle of healing my dad, so when I opened the door and walked outside, it was a nice, warm day on my block and the trees all had pretty leaves, but the sun was starting to go down and the sky was turning slightly pink. I looked down and sort of covered my view of the sky with my hands and said, “When I look up, it will be a bright and sunny day.” I looked up, and it was the same. Frustrated, I tried again, with no luck. I heard a voice from the sky (which sounded a lot like a guy I listened to talking about lucid dreams on youtube) say, “Remember to add more detail.” So I said, “When I look up, the sky will be bright yellow.” It still didn’t work, and I think it was because I lacked confidence. I decided to forget about making it sunnier and walked down the street in the direction of my girlfriend’s house.
While walking down the street, I remembered learning that rubbing your hands together can help keep a dream clear, so I rubbed my hands together. Then I decided to try licking my hands to see if it felt real. I could feel it on my tongue and on my hands. I passed a house in which I saw a scary creature talking to some children in the window. The creature looked like a goblin from Harry Potter, but it was as tall as a tall human. I decided to ignore it and keep walking. After a bit, the goblin was walking behind me. I heard it say it wanted to “get” (as in murder) Tack, the cobbler. I thought to myself, “it makes sense that Tack’s in my dream. I was just looking at gifs from that movie.” I went into a house that I thought was Alyss’s (my girlfriend’s), but inside it looked like Tack’s cobbler shop from the movie, “The Thief and the Cobbler.” Everything was black and white, and there were differently patterned cloths hanging everywhere. I heard the goblin follow me into the house. Instead of trying to make the goblin go away or change him so he wasn’t evil, I was very self indulgent and said out loud, “Tack will look like Alyss.” I saw her for a moment. Alyss was dressed in Tack’s clothes and she was all in black and white. She looked so cute that I woke up.
