Ok so something random I was thinking of while working on my tts rewrite is why did Eugenes name change from Horace ( which I didn't know was an actual name till researching it) to Eugene
They sound nothing alike, they look completely differnt when written out, there origins are completely different as Horace originats from latin while Eugene originats from ancient Greece, and their meaning aren't similar either Horace meaning 'time' or 'season' and Eugene meaning 'well born' or 'noble'
So I have two theories so far:
1. The people running the orphanage gave some of the children (that were young enough) more common or easier to pronounce names in hopes of increasing their chances of getting adopted, like how people coming over form places like China or Africa will give themselves English nicknames to make it easier for themselves in places like work and college
2. Due to the panic the sudden evacuation cause things like birth certificates or whatever they used to keep track of births at the time where lost or maybe destroyed by the rocks leaving people to simply tell people the babies name and hoped they remembered it down the line, and when names of certain children were forgotten they were given new ones by the caregivers and said names reflect on where they were from or what was popular in the area at the time
But ya I'm really curious about thus now
