This morning I drove down to Athens to have a little quality sibling time with my 3 favorites! Treated myself to a fru-fru coffee on the way, a much needed haircut and chicken fingers at one of my favorite places - it's probably a good thing I don't live close to all this stuff 😬 . Taking advantage of the beautiful space at the brewery where one brother works and the wifi (we don't have that at home either!) to do some work stuff and brainstorm for future projects. Quite a few things had to go wrong for this sweet woven wall hanging to come together. Isn't it crazy how things work out like that? This whole project fits perfectly with a quote from my favorite poem by Max Ehrman: "and whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should." . Another attempt at working with neutrals and supporting small, environmentally friendly businesses. This amazing rug yarn with all its beautiful tones is from @echoviewfibermill. The fringe is made entirely of mixtape yarn from @woolandthegang and the piece was woven on my very first loom from @funemstudio.be . Do you have any happy accident stories? I'll be honest, sometimes it can take a loooong time for me to see that the way something is unfolding in my life can have any kind of positive outcome - it's okay to take that time.

One goal for The Eddy Line Co. this year is to be open with y'all about the choices we make - choices for things like fibers. Although it may not be the best way to make a profit or sell items quickly, it is extremely important to us that we support small business any chance we get. And not just small business, but those who spread that love to other makers, take care of their employees and take care of or planet. I strongly believe that not only are these business practices that we want to support - their materials tend to be of the highest quality. . The love y'all sent out for yesterday's post was so overwhelming and appreciated. I feel so proud of this new piece and my motivation + inspiration is seriously flowing right now - I miiiight already be making another one along similar lines! I've tried over and over to make a neutral piece and I always end up adding color, I just can't help it! Trying really hard this week to convince my brain that I am allowed to make art for simply that reason - making it. Do you ever feel that pressure? Like you have to know what it will be or how successful it will turn out before you start? I definitely don't want to live or work that way - goals, right? . I was always someone who thought about resolutions for the new year but never really wrote them down - it feels like too much pressure or too real if I do that and I tend to put enough pressure on myself anyways. . However, this past year I wrote down goals. I even shared them with a sweet friend when she told me hers. I made goals for my art + business, goals for my physical + mental health, goals for my relationship with Jonny, and personal goals for random stuff like "find a local friend" (this is kinda embarrassing to put out in the universe but y'all, I am not that girl that just has tons of friends, especially not close by, and maybe if I say it "out loud" here it will up my odds...) . Anyways - the point of all this is that it was really nice to go back and see that we accomplished goals! Not every single one, and that's totally okay. If it still feels important I can just add those to this new year and if not, it's okay to move on to new ones. . What are some of your biggest hopes + goals for the new year? A couple months ago we had the amazing opportunity to work on this giant commissioned piece for @echoviewnc using nothing but their fibers - how cool is that? . Being under a little bit of a time crunch before our Canyon trip + the fact that there is nowhere in our home with this much wall space, I had never even seen it hung on a wall. So, with proud parents in tow (they took pictures of me pointing to the piece...) we went to visit the weaving yesterday. . I think one of our best discoveries of 2017 has been the roundie. I bought a little round loom from @funemstudio.be just to mess around with and give me a break from my usual stuff - turns out it sparked an entirely new way of working and some really fun woven wall hangings! . We still make roundies on that original small loom (like the mustard one here) but we have also branched out to larger scale weavings on metal hoops. Not only do we get to try going BIG, but the hoop stays inside and gives structure and stability so the piece can hang or just lean somewhere. . This fun 16" roundie is in the shop now and could come live with you if you scoop it up quick!

I know this may sound silly if your brain doesn't work the same way as mine (does anyone's though?!) but this little weaving represents a little victory for me. I have not been able to make anything new for a while now - not exactly ideal for someone whose entire job is to make new work, ya know? . I have sat and stared at piles of beautiful supplies and curated images I've saved for inspiration, but nothing would come. I tried making something just for myself - still nothing. . Today it changed. I have no idea why. I'm not even sure if I love the piece. But it was so dang exciting to know that my brain and my hands can still work together and do this. I did the next thing, what a relief. Now to just keep doing the next thing until it feels like the right thing. . What do you do when you're in a slump?

I tried that whole "best 9" thing to see the top posts we had on Instagram for the year and this beauty popped up TWICE! Despite all the love, she is still available in the shop. . This piece is truly unique + there will never be another like it (I don't think j could recreate it even if I tried!) Super chunky, measuring almost 2 feet wide (dowel is 23.5") and over 2 feet long (26"), based off a photo of flowers! There was such a lovely response to our neutral weaving from yesterday that we had to throw out this double mini in the ultimate neutral palette: black and white! . When I got my degree in photography, I focused almost completely on work created in the dark room - black and white images. I think it's kinda funny how my fiber art has gone so far in the other direction with color, but I'll never lose that love for a crisp black and white piece of art. . This woven wall hanging could literally fit into any space (where would you hang it?) in your home and the texture and movement that swooped fringe adds is just icing on the cake.
