No wait, I have actual thoughts about this beyond "heh I just love talking a little shit" though of course I do. The *only* difference between archetypical detectives and gossips is their internal motivation for seeking information. D = Justice (though that's often filtered through the lens of personal pride or male social/societal dynamics) G = Social Leverage (oft denigrated because of patriarchal acculturation, but can be seen within social groups as a type of self-sustaining justice mechanism) All of that to say, one easy way to make a character a detective by nature but not by profession? Make them a gossip.
