“Oh yeah!” Candice gave a cheer, “I’m super effective!” She threw her fist into the air but quickly brought it down. “Oh, sorry. That was pretty rude. What’s your name?” Candice stuck out a hand. “How far away is Johto from here?” Candice wondered how far it could be. She really had no idea about the other regions.

Falkner raised his eyebrows at the girl, she sure was... Active. "Errr... No, it's fine. I've heard ruder." He shook her hand lightly, "Quite a while away, my flight here took quite a few stops, and by the end Pidgeot was exhausted. Tell me, how can you live somewhere so cold, and not wear a coat or something?" He looked her up and down, she looked suited for a beach! He didn't like the cold, much preferring places sunny and bright, just like his birds.

“I have to, I have an image to keep up. If I offend somebody, I have a big problem on my hand with the press, my manager, Juan…” he started to list people he’d indirectly offend if he insulted somebody, counting them on his fingers, but stopped when he realised that Falkner probably didn’t really care. “What I say must be restrained by what people want to hear.” Wallace wondered if Falkner would understand what he was getting at. He doubted that the trainer would fully see his point, though, judging by his rash and slightly rude way of putting things. “It’s an unfortunate truth, but I’m used to it now.”

Falkner frowned, and bit his lip. He had often wanted to be famous for his training, and felt trapped in Violet City. But perhaps fame was a prison in it's own way? "I'm sorry to hear you're restricted like that. I know how it feels to have your wings clipped." Maybe Falkner was the free one here. "Hey, do you have time for lunch, I'm hungry." He'd made it a habit to ask people to lunch, having thoroughly enjoyed  previous meals where he'd met new friends. He wanted to talk to Wallace more about the restrictions he had. Falkner secretly envied him hugely... But maybe he had misjudged Wallace's way of life?

As they walked, Falkner became more and more irritated. He hated walking, flying was the only real way to travel... However, he doubted Bill was someone who would enjoy flying. He knew his Pidgeot would most likely come back without being searched for, but he wanted to make sure they were reunited, and let Pidgeot know he was loved. Pokémon that feel unloved cannot bond with their trainers properly. Eventually his feet started hurting, so he couldn't resist asking Bill, "Do you mind if we fly to get a bird's eye view?"

Why did he just change topics so quickly? ”It’s quite fashionable in my region…” he picked at the hem of his shirt, wondering what it was exactly that made his clothes so ‘bizarre’. He was wearing a shirt and trousers, which was perfectly normal, he’d have assumed, and accessories such as his beret. The cape was like uniform to him… All in all, he would have thought that he was wearing quite a fashionable version of the norm, in Hoenn at least. And what Falkner was wearing wasn’t exactly usual, either… But Wallace didn’t want to be rude to the gym leader, so he kept quiet.

Falkner looked at the man curiously  he obviously sifted through everything he was about to say before he said it. Falkner had always preferred straight talkers. "Do you ever offend people? You seem to think through everything you say..." He mused about the cape Wallace was wearing. The sign he was a Champion of training pokémon. Did he wear it out of duty? Or arrogance? Or even a dim sort of irony? It was impossible to tell...

Candice looked at the blue haired boy in horror. “Trainer? Candice has way more focus than a simple trainer!” She huffed but gave a grin, “What about you? Are you from around here?”

"No..." Said Falkner, reminded of home, "I come from Johto. I'm a flying type Gym Leader there." He wondered why the girl was speaking in the third person, but decided not to ask. He had made too many bad impressions on his first greeting when it came to this region.

“I know that the research is important and all, but… I’ve got to give you trainers credit. You guys don’t mess around.” He thought back to all the battles he’d seen, and couldn’t help but smile. “Hm? My Eevee? Yeah… it’s, uh… him, actually… But if you really want to see him…” Slowly, he held up the Poke Ball, sending out his favorite Pokemon in the world. “…Here he is! Got any Pokemon you want to show me?

Falkner was embarrassed he had got the poor creature's gender wrong, but knelt down and stoked his ears. He loved how pokémon reacted to human touch, they all had personalities and characteristics. His own Pigeot, for example, didn't like being touched on the head because it made him feel trapped, and could stop him seeing, which he hated just like Falkner. "Sure!" He said to Bill's question, "Pigeot, say hello!" He sent out the large bird, smiling at him happily. He had had the pokémon since he was very young. Pigeot was his first pokémon, and he had used him in battle ever since. Often, he envied him for being able to fly and experience being in the air without any aid or machines. Falkner wished that was possible for him.

Falkner looked at him, his smile fading. still with a hnt of glee on his face, he carried on, “Well, you took your time answering that! Had anyone else except Winona, then?” he hoped his careless tone would allow him to drag back some power over Wallace, it was so rare and so very satisfying to see him blushing or lost for words. Come to think of it, Falkner didn’t actually think even Wallace himself knew why he was blushing. He was sure there was at least some truth in this rumour, but maybe the champion wasn’t aware of it yet. Falkner wondered how long it would take him to see the truth, if the truth really was what what he thought it was. maybe he needed a reminder…

“Had?” the blush returned to his face. Thank goodness there was nobody around except for Falkner. His ability to embarrass Wallace was unparalleled. “I- well… I didn’t exactly ‘have’ her, so to speak…” he clasped his hands together as if he was scared that they’d betray him and embarrass him further. “That probably sounds ridiculous, considering the media, but… No?” Wallace sounded quite unsure of his answer. Was he perhaps misinterpreting the definition of ‘have’? There wasn’t really any other definition that he could think of other than what seemed obvious. Either way, Falkner had a certain gleam in his eye that suggested that it was indeed the obvious definition. Although, he might have been planning something else as well. Wallace just couldn't be sure when it came to flying trainers.

Falkner could tell Wallace was confused. He had deliberately made the statement ambiguous, and the reaction to it was hilarious! Along with the 'reminding' joke, the Champion was so red faced it wouldn't be unlikely to mistake him for a fire trainer! Time for a subject change... he thought. "So, that's settled. What about your clothes, Mr. Hoenn Champion? They're rather... bazaar, aren't they?" was it possible to embaress Wallace further?
