BAD NEWS FROM THE ZONES, TUMBLEWEEDS.

My favorite thing about danger days canon is that outside of the main storyline there is absolutely no fixed detail. I can say whatever I want and none of you can prove me wrong. The Phoenix Witch got zooted on some of Fun Ghoul's nasty zones weed and made a mistake and now every single day in Zone 7 is a thursday. No one has realized this because there are no calendars in the desert and half the people living there dont know what a thursday is. Kobra Kid got turned into a vampire last week and now he and Jet Star are taking bets to see how long it'll take Party Poison to notice. Show Pony is a firebender but it's not mentioned because it wasn't relevant to the Girl's story. Val Velocity had a torrid love affair with Dr. Death and that's the REAL reason he killed him. I could go on

Thinking about America as a motif throughout danger days... the flag is painted on the side of trans am along with the lyrics to the national anthem, the flag is on the back of Jet Star's jacket but UNDER the DD spider, Good Nite Dr. Death fades out with the distorted national anthem. It's not an in-your-face symbol of freedom and hope or whatever the way it is in most modern media. Whenever we see the flag it's dusty, or torn up, and never as an actual flag. The national anthem in the broadcast ends with so much feedback its almost unlistenable. It's ironic, almost mocking the American dream. Freedom for all? Where? Not here, obviously! It's a relic of a bygone empire being kicked around by the corporate dystopia built out of it's ashes, a symbol with no weight behind it. An icon with no bite. People wave it around out of habit and nothing else. Anyway, thinking about how danger days came from the mind of gerard 'media literacy' way, who saw the twin towers go down and the immediate aftermath in American culture... essays could be written

im never not thinking about the sheer LOVE and DEVOTION that’s infused into danger days! like there’s so much of it…. “i’ll find you when the sun goes black” and “run away with me any time you want” and “we could leave it all behind” and “just don’t let go” and “leave the party with me and never go home” and “let me be the one to save you” and “i’ll keep you safe tonight” and “you stop the noise” and all of the only hope for me is you…. anyway it appeals to the fundamental gay desire for a ride or die found family and they GET IT! they were RIGHT!

one of the main giveaways of killjoys sneaking around the city is that they’ll just start choking shit up since they’re not used to the filtered air, it’ll make their lungs heave and ache, their throats burn and they’ll be winded from running quicker. hacking up dust draws attention to them, to their unusual tan lines, the coloured hair poking out of a hat, their dirty and damaged hands...

Not only am I looking forward to the story of Mike Milligram, being a huge “old school” Killjoys fan, I’m also glad they’re focusing on Mike instead of the Fabulous Four so it won’t interfere with the elaborate headcanons and storylines that the fans have come up with.
