when parents week at smosh leads to a small investigation about you and spencer when his mom notices some things.
parts of the story inspired by @starrwrites / @thewayilikemycookie 's story -> a soft love
Parents Week at smosh was probably your worst nightmare.
Not because you didn't want your parents to come, or because you didn't want to meet everyone else's parents. It was because Spencer's mom was coming to set
And it was going to be a lot harder to hide the fact that you and spender were dating.
The two of you had agreed from the beginning that you weren't telling anybody. not the internet, not your coworkers, nobody. You wanted to keep it private. Just the two of you until you were ready.
Unfortunately, parents weke wasn't exactly helping this cause.
Earlier that day, you were filming a smosh games video that involved some complicated board game that you barely understood during the practice round. Spencer's mom, Ellen, arrived early to set and was quietly watching everyone getting settled around the table.
Angela sat acriss from you. courtney was beside you. And Arasha sat between Angela and Courtney.
The intro wrapped, the game started, and everyone immediately looked down at their cards.
Judging by the focused looks on everyone else's faces, they seemed to understand exactly what they were doing.
You, however, were completely confused.
You slightly furrowed your eyebrows, trying to make sense of the cards in your hand.
From behind the camera, Spencer noticed almost immediately.
"Does anyone need help?" he asked casually. "Like, understanding the cards?"
The answer left your mouth before you could stop yourself.
Spencer looked over, trying and failing to not smile as he stood up and walked toward you. aorund the table, everyone else continued chatting while he leaned down beside your chair.
"You okay?" he asked quietly.
"Yeah, I just..." You laughed under your breath. "Didnt know what these cards meant."
"You should've said something." He shook his head. "Nobody would've made fun of you. You know that."
He hummed before looking down at your hand and explaining each card one by one.
By the time he finished, everything finally clicked.
"Oh," you blinked like it was easy this whole time, pointing at one card before to another. "So this one works with this one?"
Spencer glanced at it before smiling.
You looked up at him, smiling.
For a split second, his expression softened.
The kind of look that only ever appeared when the two of you were alone.
You could practixally see him fighting the urge to kiss your forehead in front of everyone.
Instead, he took a breath and nodded once, before returning to his spot behind the camera.
Across the room, Ellen raised an eyebrow.
Still, she didn't say anything.
There wasn't exactly any proof.
No one else had noticed so she had no reason to think anything of it.
Once filming wrapped, everyone started filtering out of the room.
You walked over to where Spencer was waiting.
"Seriously, thank you," you said. "I don't know how you read me so well."
Completely forgetting that Ellen was still there.
And apparently, spencer forgot too.
"Yeah, well," he replied with a grin, "I'd hope I know my girlfriend of seven months."
Without thinking, you reached down and grabbed his hand, absentmindedly swinging it between you.
For a moment, neither of you realized what you'd done.
Near the doorway, Ellen covered a smile.
That certainly explained a few things.
Quietly, she slipped out of the room before either of you noticed.
Spencer was pretending to listen while secretly staring at you.
"You are literally not paying attention," you said.
"I am," Spencer replied immediately.
You crossed your arms. "What did I just say?"
Spencer pointed at you. "You said... something."
"I got the important part."
"You didn't get any part liar."
Before Spencer could defend himself, someone called his name from another set thay was blocked off while filming.
He groaned quietly and dramatically.
Spencer squeezed your hand once before letting go and heading toward the set while you walked out.
Ellen found herself standing beside Arasha.
Not because she was trying to investigate though, arahsa just happened to be there.
"You all work together a lot, right?" Ellen asked casually.
Arasha looked up from her phone.
"Then maybe you can answer something for me."
"How long have Spencer and y/n known each other?"
"A few years? 5 i think," Arasha answered.
Ellen nodded thoughtfully.
Arasha narrowed her eyes.
"No, that was a suspicious 'hm.'"
Arasha stared at her for a second longer.
That should've been the end of it.
Unfortunately, Ellen kept accidentally asking questions. Not on purpose, just asking them more than she thought she would.
A little later she found herself sitting near Amanda.
"Do Spencer and Y/N always sit together?" Ellen asked.
And then, Ellen ran into Olivia.
"Do they text each other a lot?" Ellen asked.
"I have literally no idea."
"Mrs. Agnew, I barely answer my own texts."
"Yep, thank you olivia." Ahe smiled.
By the time Olivia found Arasha later, she immediately brought it up.
"Has spencers mom asked you any weird wuestions?"
Arasha pointed dramatically.
"No, definitely not. She was asking me stuff too."
"About Spencer and y/n, what was she asking you about?" Arasha explained.
"Oh my God, me too. That's weird, right?"
Now they were both invested.
A little while later, they dragged Amanda into the conversation.
By the end of the day, half the cast was trying to figure out what Ellen had noticed.
Nobody suspected you and Spencer were dating.
"I think maybe she thinks they had a fight," Angela said.
Olivia snapped her fingers.
"What if she thinks they're secretly related?"
"In what world would that make any sense?"
"I don't know.." She shrugged with a mumble.
Meanwhile, Ellen was sitting somewhat nearby, holding back any smile she had befause somehow every theory they all guessed or suggested was wrong.
Hours later, you and Spencer walked into the break area together.
The second you entered, the room went completely silent.
You immediately stopped walking.
"...Why did it get so wuiet?" you asked.
"No reason," Amanda said too quickly.
Spencer narrowed his eyes.
"There's definitely a reason."
Olivia pointed at the two of you.
"Your mom keeps asking questions about you two," Olivia replied.
You and Spencer both froze.
But Ellen caught it immediately.
"What kind of questions?" you asked.
"Very specific questions," Arasha spoke, "Anout you two." She hummed.
Spencer looked at his mom.
"Why are you interrogating my coworkers?"
"I am not interrogating anybody."
"Really? cause it sounds like you are" Soencer furrowed his eyebrows
The conversation eventually slowly moved on. People got distracted. Someone started talking about another shoot. Some others left to to film another bideo.
Eventually everyone began packing up to leave.
You headed out first to grab something from your bag.
The second the room cleared out, Ellen walked over. "Spencer?"
Ellen smiled sweetly, "Seven months?"
Spencer's eyes widened. For the first time all day, he had absolutely nothing to say. Ellen patted his shoulder and said, "She's lovely." And then she walked away.
Leaving Spencer standing there in complete horror as he tried to figure out exactly how much she'd seen because he would not be able to recover if his mother saw them in the sotrage area making out.
