âColorism isnât real.â
Colorism? Wow because the term âracismâ is so blase.
pilambdaod Colorism specifically refers to people of their own race valuing lighter skin over darker skin. For example in latina culture, valuing âgoodâ straight hair over âpelo maloâ or bad, curly hair.
Racism would imply weâre talking about at least two different races here; colorism specifically is about racist ideals within one race, people of one race policing others appearance within their own race.Â
(since this is an indian book, presumably made by indian people for indian children to read, depicting a light skinned indian woman as more beautiful than a dark skinned one, itâs colorism.)
One of those is clearly Caucasian the other Indian.
Creating random new âismsâ only makes legitimate grievances seem petty and stupid.
âOne of those is clearly Caucasianâ
Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor, Kangana RanautÂ
Karisma Kapoor, Shruti Haasan, Zarine Khan
All actresses/models born in India to parents who were also born in India (or Pakistan), in a narrow view of ârace.âÂ
If a Papua New Guinean hooks up with a Swedish person all you get is a human. Â Thereâs no new thing youâre going to get. You just get a human.Â
-Â Bill Nye: Race is a Human Construct (and donât look at the comments; itâs the usual cesspool of bigots)Â
Ideas on âraceâ have been in slow development over the years, but colourism is a real thing (often with roots in imperialism, especially as Western ideas of beauty began to intrude upon countries).Â
The 100 Years of Beauty: Philippines has a jarring jump where April Villanueva (who has light/medium-toned skin) gets her skin darkened for the 1910s-20s aesthetic, then becomes powder-white when US/European colonial interests make a stronger influence on Philippine society in the 1930s (more in the research video).Â
Two more examples of skin tone variation between famous women in countries where colourism has become prevalent in celebrity culture (ie, it was a lot harder finding photos of a dark-skinned Korean actress than a light-skinned one):Â
Koreans: Song Hye-kyo and Lee HyoriÂ
Filipinos: Valerie Garica and Nicole Scherzinger (active in the US; Filipino father, Hawaiian/Samoan-Russian mother)Â
Variation in skin colour across a âraceâ is as real as variation in eye colour (âoh, you have brown eyes? I guess youâre not a real Caucasianâ).Â
Colourism also pervades a lot of modern beauty marketing.Â
Whatâs underneath your dark skin? A prettier, lighter version of yourself! Everyone should strive to be more fair and lovely because only then youâll be happy with your flesh prison!!Â
tl;dr colourism exists and isnât some bogeyman made up by ââes jay double-ews,ââ and if youâre the person bemoaning how it âdelegitimizes racismâ then itâs likely you actually donât care about racism at all and are just trying to devalue the arguments with the classic âbut so-and-so people have it worse! how could you be so self-centered and selfish??âÂ

Reginald when asked which his favorite child is:
shoutout to the time my mom was hammered and i heard her trying to tell my dad that she murdered her first husband years ago and my dad very patiently said âi saw glenn in an elevator last weekâ
donât be afraid to get bioluminescent this year
i just realized this post would have been marginally funnier if i said âthis summerâ instead of âthis yearâ because i like the nonsensical implied connection between summer and the ability to chemically fluoresce. sorry everyone i let you down
Fandom:
Adults: *create a space for other adults*
Minors*: *come into that space*Â
Minors: this isnât a safe space for kids!!
Adults: âŚ..uhh no, itâs not.
Minors: why are you personally attacking me personally?
Adults: âŚ.????????âŚâŚâŚâŚÂ
Minors: I know you want to fuck children
Me: *looks at fic with one character thatâs in his 40â˛s and another thatâs in his 50â˛s, with no children in sight*Â
Me: âŚâŚâŚplease get out of my house
(I still get a lot of responses to this post calling me a pedo and I am t i r e d of this bottom-of-the-barrel quality discourse)
* this obviously doesnât apply to all minors, and to all those minors (like me, when I was your age!) that manage to enjoy and participate in fandom without calling everyone a pedophile, I appreciate you.
Adults: we want to write/draw porn of these fictional adult characters.
Minors: thatâs not appropriate for children.
Adults: yep! thatâs why itâs tagged as explicit and has a warning for mature content and also is tagged for various sex acts in case youâre not into that.
Minors: that type of content makes me uncomfortable.
Adults: we totally get that but thatâs why the tags and warnings are on it.
Adults: look you even have to agree:
This work could have adult content. If you proceed you have agreed that you are willing to see such content.
Adults: so if youâre not into that type of thing then you can just skip over it.
Minors: it make me uncomfortable.
Adults: âŚâŚthen⌠donât⌠read it?
Minors: no.Â
Minors: you should stop writing it.
Adults: no.
JUST FUCKING SAYING
Iâve said it before and Iâll say it again. If youâre old enough to be using the internet unsupervised, then youâre old enough to be learn how to avoid content that upsets you. Adult fans and content creators are not here to be your babysitters.
one thing is always true in my many years of experience of being in a fandom : if you donât like something, just exit the page. itâs that easy. thereâs a back button for you to use, not an âattackâ button for you to personally insult the author
you canât blame others for the consequences of mistakes you made yourself. if you still go into the page despite the clear tags and warnings, then itâs not the content creatorâs responsibility to take care of your feelings
fandom is really a sandbox. up till now, i was a minor for most of my time in a fandom. i have seen lots of things i did not want to see. thatâs why i now blacklist those tags on tumblr. AO3 saviour is also a good friend for you.
i do not blame anyone. because there are many different people and kinks in a fandom, not everything is made with you in mind as as targeted audience
(i do report the pedophiles when possible, though)
He was a trans man you fucking freaks
Imagine hating trans men so much that you read the history of someone who presented as a man for so long that most people only discovered he was ~biologically female~ after his fucking autopsy and be like âwell clearly he was just gender fluidâ Iâm fucking
he specifically asked to be buried in the clothes he died in!!!!! we only know he was trans bc someone disrespected his direct wishes after his death!!!!!!

Apollo: Sister, what are you the goddess of?
Artemis: *lounging by a spring on piles of deerskin surrounded by three dozen naked girls with a dead pan expression* Virginity.
âHeracles, theyâre lesbiansâ.
Note that the concept of âvirginityâ in Ancient times merely meant âunmarriedâ, and had nothing to do with sexual activity. Some priestesses were âvirginsâ because they chose (or were committed to) a life of worship, but it was merely a question of social status, not of personal choice or practice. Of course, one can suppose that this lifestyle would be rather attractive for lesbians. So when Artemis is said to be the Goddess of Virgins, it is meant to be understood as âGoddess of Unmarried Womenâ, or, quite possibly literally, of lesbians. (Itâs only Christianity that reframed the concept of virginity to mean ânever had sexâ. Many ancient religions has âVirgin goddessesâ, which symbolized feminine power, and in this case too it meant âuntied to a manâ, or âwhole for herselfâ)
ok but also consider :
