He leans in, breath hot against the flesh of her neck.

His tone is a mockery of her reluctance. Impatience floods his body, sliding a hand around her waist.

         For  a  moment  he  thinks  to  reverse  them  again,  but instead          relaxes,  reaching  around the back of  her thighs and pulling her          forward,

“Do you think I like hitting you?”

“You’re pathetic; you’ll never do any better than me.”

“I’m sorry, I’ll never do it again, just please don’t leave me.”

“If you don’t get out of there he’s/she’s gonna kill you.”

“Pick yourself up off the floor, you look ridiculous”

“I can’t do this anymore; you’re not going to hurt me again.”

“I’m sick of looking at you!”

“Pass me your phone, I need to check you haven’t been talking to anyone else.”

“You think I was cheating? I was visiting my family!”

“When did it get this bad?”

“That bruise looks awful, you can’t go out tomorrow.”

“Who’s this? I bet you’re sleeping with them!”

“You can’t wear that, it’s too revealing.”

“I don’t care what your friends say, I think you’re worthless.”

“Please… Please don’t hit me again.”

“I’ll call the police!”

“If that happens again I will leave you.”

“Please don’t be angry…”

“Stop throwing things!”

“You’re not the man/woman I fell in love with!”

          Broad shoulders straighten while the clacking of heavy black work boots beat against the wooden paneling of the floor, bringing his body beside hers. He leans, a soft smiling curving the edge of his lips.

HIs proximity disarms her, as always. She raises her arms defensively, but her hands make it no higher than his shoulders, gripping the fabric of his jacket.

"I--"

His boldness shocks her, but she cannot deny the growing hunger.

falls asleep with the TV on

leaves the lights on

uses the bathroom with the door open
