As a no word count, character driven, and community driven site our goal is to create a exciting inclusive and diverse community, with characters of different backgrounds and cultures. Since there has been some confusion over what is appropriate to use when cleansing one’s space, I thought I’d make a little post on my favorite methods from my own Grimoire. 

1. Salt. 

Simply sprinkle salt (a small grain type) on the carpet. After about an hour, vacuum. Salt crystals have an amazing natural built in-ability to absorb negative energy. As an alternative, you can put bowls of salt in the corners of the room and remove them after a few hours. *this works for people too. Instead of sprinkling yourself with salt, take a bath with 2 cups of sea salt in it. It’s grounding and clearing all at the same time.

2. Room spray

Buying or making a room spray with pure essential oils helps clear negative energy. The best ones to use for clearing are rose, lavender, frankincense, and patchouli. *this works for people too. Gently mist yourself with the spray!

3.  High-Frequency Music

Playing high vibration music can make a big difference. We already know what a difference music can make in our own energy, and it does the same for spaces. Any music that makes you feel good will work!

4.  Black Tourmaline

This is my favorite crystal for clearing negative energy.  I have several of them around my house. This crystal does not need to be cleared as others do. 

*this works for people too. I often put it in my pocket or purse while traveling. It’s great for sensitive people who seem to pick up on the energy around them and need some extra protection.

5. Burn White Sage

You can buy white sage sticks in many places, including online. Burning this while you walk around your house with it (swirling it in a counterclockwise rotation) is really great for clearing bad energy.

I usually say something as I do it like “I’m clearing all stagnant energy from this space and allowing only that of the highest vibration to remain.” *this works for people too. Start at your feet swirling the smoke from the sage around you until you get all the way up to your head.

6. Incense

Burn sandalwood incense or dried sage to disintegrate the negative energy in each room. Wave it counterclockwise in each corner, closet, and cabinet. You may also let one stick burn in each room. Say, “Thank you for the complete disintegration of all negative energies, thoughts, and emotions from this room now.”

7. Candles

Light a candle to dedicate energy to your endeavors. Say your wish out loud. For example, “I am so grateful for all the love, harmony, and healthy energy pouring into my home right now.”

8. Bells

While Tibetan bells have additionally sacred symbolism to them, the ring of any bell will brighten up your space with positive energy. As the sound vibrations disperse blocked energy, the sweet chimes work to uplift the fresh energy leftover. Ring your bell throughout your space, working the vibrations into those overlooking areas.  

9. Essential Oils

Diffusing essential oils is a great way to clear negative energy from your home or office space, and as the oils stay in the air for hours afterward, you continue to experience their therapeutic properties.

With the right essential oils, a diffuser can also set a positive, safe space and reduce the accumulation of negative energy in the first place.

10. Purification Salts. 

Same principle with the sea salt, only with added herbs for extra oomph. I like Hyssop, Argomony, Rosemary, Lemon Balm, and Lavender. Grind together with Sea salt and Epsom salt and you have a powerful purification salt. Great for ritual baths as well! 

So here’s a list I have devised that are good for curses/hexing. Please be warned: many of these are icky and poisonous. Please do your research before handling and please do not ingest. Some of these herbs require a mask and gloves!

Ague Weed ~ makes enemies confused

Angelica Root ~ for curses & hexing

Asafoetida ~ for casting hexes on a person. Sometimes referred to as the devil’s incense, asafoetida is burned to force someone to leave you alone.

Balmony ~  A plant in the figwort family that is ground and used for hexing.

Bindweed ~ curses/hexing.

Bird’s Eye Chilis ~ from the Solanaceae (nightshade) family used for cursing, heating up spells, and for crafting Hoodoo powders like hot foot powder and goofer dust.

Blackthorn Thorns ~ thorns are traditionally used for cursing and protection. The thorns of the Blackthorn tree have long been used in witchcraft for pricking wax or cloth poppets to curse an intended victim. 

Black Berry Root ~ this is long used as a protection herb but can also cause bane. 

Bladderwrack ~ When placed near an enemies bathroom it is said to cause that enemy to be stricken with irritation of the urinary tract.

Blood Root ~  If you are looking for a substitute for human blood use this blood root to make diabolic wine. Can also be used for general curses. 

Blueberry ~ Causes an enemy strife when thrown on his doorstep.

Boneset ~ To burn as an incense and to use during curses.

Chicory ~ used for curses, bringing discord and baneful practices.

Chili Powder ~ for discord, bane, curses

Cinquefoil ~ Burn over a candle wax image of an enemy to cause them discomfort.

Cramp Bark

Hemlock ~ discord, cursing, sadness. 

Henbane ~ will cause illness, discord, and melancholy. 

Jezebel Root ~ used in the famous Jezebel curse, but can also be used in other curses as well as compelling spells.

Knot Weed ~ To get rid of one’s enemy, stuffed into a black cloth or voodoo doll and sew up, then bury the doll. It is also used with balmony herb in curses.

Lime or Lemon ~ Makes your enemy’s life sour. 

Lobelia ~ brings discord

Mace ~ cursing & hexing. 

Mandrake ~ for curses and hexes

Morning Glory 

Mustard Seed ~ the seed of strife and discord. Leave it at one’s doorstep, particularly black mustard seed. This seed sprinkled around the trunk of a fruit tree on the first evening of the full moon will cause the tree to bear no fruit.

Nightshade/Belladonna ~ Cause an enemy discord/illness

Onion ~ can cause strife in an enemy’s life. 

Patchouli ~ sickens enemies when used in chants and spells.

Poke Root ~ will confuse enemies, brings discord when used in curses and hexes. 

Poppy Seed ~ Causes couples to argue.

Rue ~ Although it is great protection for the owner in turn rue placed near another person puts a great hex on them. 

Spanish Moss ~ used to give bad luck to the intended. 

Slippery Elm ~ Used to separate a married couple when buried near their home.

Stinging Nettle ~ can bring sadness, bad luck, hexing

Sumac ~ for curses, hexing, bringing bad luck

Tormentil ~ To cause distress, harm and discord to a foe, sprinkle this on a picture of her or him and place in a box.

Vetivert: Silences ones who will speak ill of you.

Vervain ~ Spells used to contact and speak with Lucifer are the most effective when using this herb. Also used for conjuring evil spirits and demons, as well as placing curses. 

Wormwood ~ for curses and hexing your enemy. 

Yew ~ used for contacting spirits, but can also be used for curses. 

***Good rule: anything spicy or sour can be used in curses.***
