I feel like the idea that there are good or bad fandoms (ie fandoms populated by either kind/just people or mean/unjust people) is often predicated on the idea that liking a certain ship or character gives you moral worth.
regarding that person in our fandom, i think it’s honestly hilarious (actually, sad) that you and another @ made a callout touching this issue, and i’m pretty sure a lot of jonsas saw those posts, but no one moved. and i recently saw a post in our tags praising the fandom, but i think we all seriously need to take a hard look inward and ask ourselves why we’re allowing someone who engages with posts that dehumanize Palestinians to remain a “Big Name Fan.” and the worst part??? the fact that people still continue to engage with her honestly makes me even more afraid (and sad) that it’s simply because people in our fandom just don’t care about this whole thing.... anyways, i don’t know if you want to post this or not, i just wanted to vent a little lol and my bad

This is taking escapism to another level. I understand that friendships are hard to let go of as is someone who gave you a daily fix as you're stuck in a rut. But how long are you going to compartmentalise this shit? Her being a BNF (and liberal except for this issue) and a consistent contributor to the fandom is really making her immune to any kind of backlash. The fact that most of the larger show/book fandom hates jonsas makes them more defensive and want to stay in the bubble more.
Also how hypocritical for her to be so defensive of Dorne in fiction but not apply that in reality?
I think fandom Discords can be annoying because there's always stupid internal (not worldly) politics involved - which is why I'm not part of one. It is very cliquey. People have divided the fandom over much less. But back in the day if jonsas could kick out a Trump supporter, they should be able to do this too.

homeschooling in the US needs to be regulated but this is one of those conversations that immediately gets crushed by extremist conservatives and even well-meaning liberals will pipe up to be like "well some homeschooling is good!" when that's absolutely not relevant. regulation will not change anything for the homeschooling families who are serious about their children's education. the people who need to be regulated are the fringe extremists
the lack of regulation is so bad that according to the coalition for responsible home education 11 states don't even require parents to tell anyone they intend to homeschool and 18 more only require a notice of intent. after that there is nothing the state can do to ensure that the children are actually learning or even being cared for
don't bring up the good homeschoolers when the bar is so low that "requiring all parents nationwide to submit a notice of intent to homeschool" would be an improvement. the good homeschoolers are already doing things that are this simple and reasonable. we are not talking about them when we say things should be regulated
