STARTER

The restaurant had long since closed.

Most of the lights were off, leaving only the warm glow of the kitchen lamps illuminating the polished counters. The silence was nearly absolute save for the rhythmic sound of a knife striking a cutting board.

Vincent didn't look up immediately when the door opened.

"...We're closed."

He said simply as the sound of another fine chop filled the air.

"...Though considering you've ignored the sign and entered anyway, I assume you want something."

He finally raised his head and let his gaze settle upon you, his eyes studied you for a moment with curiosity and growing irritation.

"...Well?"

A pause.

"Since you're already here, speak."

He looked at the letter before sighing, keeping his voice quiet enough so nobody around would hear. He knew he didn’t have to even talk in a legible manner for these ‘askers’ to be able to hear him, or so he had deduced.

“When I was younger. I put just about anything in my mouth. Dirt, worms, even rocks.”

He trailed off, as he stood in the corner of the kitchen watching over the cooks to make sure they were doing their jobs right.

“...I’d always wanted to find new tastes. I stopped that odd habit shortly after I lost my sense of taste, it was just a bunch of disgusting, tasteless textures by then.”

He pauses as one of the cooks hand him an envelope, oh? Another letter from the anons. He opens it and reads it, going silent for a long while. Really, this is what they are going to waste his time with? He has a bistro to run.

“….”

He looks away and soon a mocking smirk began playing on his lips,

“pass.”

“...No? You want me to make a....themed menu? .....I don’t get it- But on a serious note, what is that?”

he raised a brow at the other, he’s never heard of a Pride month before. He looked at his snapped cigarette in his fingers and sighed, rubbing it out in the ashtray.

“What a waste of a good cigarette, I suppose this means my break is over.”

“….. My waiter is awfully busy. Also- as far as I’m aware he’s far too focused on a specific girl at the moment. He’s not looking for new relationships, in fact, he’s focused on his job at the moment. You understand, don’t you?”

He gave a strained smile as his finger clenched and bent his cigarette in half, sitting at his desk as he stared at the physical anon, these voices… when did they even obtain bodies?

“Also where did you even come from..?”

He looks at the letter in his left hand, reading the text before going still. Blinking a couple of times before exhaling a deep exhausted sigh, before putting on his customer service smile. It was a slightly strained smile but you wouldn’t be able to tell at first glance, he had no trouble putting on that fake ass charm for anybody else that didn’t work at the establishment- after all, good appearances led to good business.

“I’m guessing this means you like the food? I’m flattered, really. But I am ever so busy, maybe next time.”

He hummed out, before after a few moments he let it completely fall, tossing the letter in the trash and taking another swig of his cigarette.

“What do you- …your JOB? We shouldn’t get any bad reviews if you simply do as you always have. Make the food, and make it like I’m the one making it; anything lesser than that should be thrown out and remade. Now get to work.”

He glared daggers at the anon, rolling his eyes as he kept his eyes on the dining hall through the serving hatch. His arms crossed as he shakes his head, before turning on his heel to head into his office shutting the door behind him with a click.

“….you what? Are you really this incompetent- wait, did you say water?” He paused, eyes slightly widening before glaring daggers as he pinched the bridge of his nose. “…….Everyone here is incompetent. The only thing stopping me from firing you on the spot, is because of the sheer impossibility of you burning. Water. Get your shit together, or I’ll make sure the water isn’t the only thing getting burnt today. God forbid we get a complaint because of this, I refuse to get a complaint because a cook doesn’t know how to do the most basic of cooking in an establishment that clearly far exceeds their competence and basic comprehension skills, because my workers are apparently brain dead, pigs.”
