Goodbye and Hello.
Dear fans,
Thank you so much for supporting the Swizzle. I’ve been meaning to write this note for a long time but wasn’t ready.
I loved writing this blog but stopped in 2012 because I became pregnant with my first son Tiago. For almost a year, I lost the privilege of enjoying cocktails, and considered experimenting with mocktails. Unfortunately, I just don’t care for mocktails much. While they’re definitely a worthy addition to bar menus, I’m personally impassioned by that two or more ounces of gin, scotch, tequila, mescal, cognac, etc. When pregnant, I enjoyed cranberry and soda water or Diet Coke.
Of course, my son Tiago’s debut made all the abstaining worth it! I planned to resume the blog, but surprise: I became pregnant with my second when Tiago was just five months old. Valentino was born in September. As of recently, I have enjoyed making and drinking cocktails again and considered again resuming the blog. For such reasons as these: an AMAZING gin and shiso cocktail from Café Clover in NYC’s West Village, a liquid nitrogen cocktail requiring a spoon at Commonwealth in San Francisco and the Maria Linda at newly-opened Los Angeles restaurant Ysabel: El Silencio mescal, pavan orange blossom, orange bell pepper and thai chili. YUM.
Then came my literary agent. I’d written a novel inspired by the same bar I worked at in New York from 2009-2011 and pitched it to her at a conference. It’s full of glamour, heart, light and darkness, and will likely be published within the year, fingers crossed.
Between working on that and raising my two boys, I’ve decided not to resume the Swizzle and plan to close the blog and its Facebook page within the next few weeks. Meanwhile, I’ve been taking trips down memory lane and remembering all the fun I had filming videos, enjoying cocktails with my dear friends and marveling at the creations of mixologists from New York to LA to Tucson to Tokyo.
I’d be so honored if you continued to follow me and the journey of my novel. I even promise to throw in some cocktails I love along the way, of course.
Thank you again and hope to connect with you as friends on Facebook or Twitter. Or ideally, in the newly revamped Rainbow Room over sidecars!
Cheers,
Stacy
