In this issue of LOVE INJECTIONS, - We Set Our Priorities There are roughly 12 life categories that are important, and at any time their priority can change. Family - Community - Friendships - Home - Hobbies - Personal time - Possessions - Wealth and Finance - Parenting - Work and Career - Couple/Relationship - Spirituality. What you think “should” be first, can end up toward the bottom and vice versa. I remember as a kid my dad often said, “You need to get your priorities straight.” He was usually referring to my studies because as a kid he thought that that should be my top priority, but at that age, I didn’t necessarily agree. I had raging hormones and the need to feel accepted. And even though kids grow up, most of us are still dragged around by our momentary whims. We will trade what we really want for what we want right now. It takes discipline to set a right-now desire aside for fulfilling, maintaining, or building a future that really matters to you. One such example is food. Can you remember a recent time when you indulged knowing full well it was going to cost you? But you and I have trained ourselves to dim the light on the cost, so we can have some sense of fulfillment now even though fleeting. Now - as you consider that recent time when you indulged, I want you to ask yourself this question, “Was it worth it? Knowing what you know now, was it worth it?” There is a great chance you will answer, “No, it wasn’t worth it.” You want to develop and make very loud a question in your mind at all forks in the road, “Will it taste as good as skinny feels?” If the answer is yes - go for it! That is the perfect negotiation. You will come face to face with the truth every time. That practice will give you strength in those weak moments. And of course, we are no longer talking just about food. Your union with your spouse or with a partner to whom you are fully committed is a top priority that gets shifted to the bottom - and often! Doesn’t it? What do you trade for? Putting your relationship at the top is actually very easy. All you have to do is find small ways that make your partner feel cherished. You already do this for your dog, and for most of your friends, just follow that philosophy: Treat your partner like your pet or those special friends. Greet them at the door like you are happy to see them (wag your tail), go for walks every day, reward good behavior several times a day with a treat, give lots of physical affection every day (pet the dog) and don’t hold grudges (you don’t punish a dog for weeks on end for messing once in the house…so don’t stay mad at your partner for a mistake or misspeak last week). Use Love Bytes: Bring him/her coffee every morning. Hug, hold hands, often. Text/flirt throughout the day (reminders “just thinking about you xo”) Make your bedroom a no-kid zone—explain to the kids that it’s “your space.” Say I love you, in front of the kids, daily. Plan the week as a family on Sunday. Manage your family like a sports team where you’re the superstars. It’s simple stuff if you think about it. Honestly, it’s just about your attention. Life is busy. Technology overwhelms us. When you throw in kids, pets, work, friends, etc—you have to prioritize—you cannot do it all at once. Declaring your partner as your top priority (in the world) is where it starts and then it gets pretty simple from there. Enjoy this FREE video series training.
