Silent adoration

How did it happen that Ferry wrote the song "Prairie Rose" a year before meeting Jerry Hall? Did he perhaps start a serious relationship with her only because she fit a prediction he had made to himself? Or was it all planned? Did he discover the young Texas-born model, invite her for a Roxy new album cover shoot, and decide upon meeting her that she was his destiny? Or had he been stalking her for a year prior to their meeting — ever since she started appearing in magazines as a model? Too many coincidences, Bryan. It’s all too suspicious.

All in all, my life in England isn’t the *dolce vita* it might seem to others. From the inside, it often feels more like surrealism or a theater of the absurd—one in which I am helpless.

Perhaps that is at least a good reason why I shouldn’t envy that Lviv beauty blogger lady; after all, quite apart from the external challenges posed by the war in Ukraine and her future life and career prospects, she has yet to achieve remission for her mental health issues—despite undergoing treatment, some social support and not having to decide everything alone or work a boring or physically/mentally hard job full hours.

It seems that life isn't actually as sweet for her on the inside as she tries to make it look on social media.

Yes, from the inside, traveling doesn't feel all that thrilling to me. I photograph everything, hide behind my phone’s camera, and view the sights through the lens, yet I can't seem to derive any real joy from simply behold the beautiful in the moment. Maybe I’m just too demanding. Maybe it’s because I’m struggling with depression. Or perhaps it’s because traveling causes me so much stress—and the negative stress outweighs the positive.

I am personally to blame for half of the problems I encounter while traveling—issues involving logistics, struggling to leave hotel earlier in the morning, time management, insufficient planning and research before setting out, a lack of rest and sleep prior to the trip, last-minute packing, and so on. I also try to see too much—and preferably see it all—which often leads me to visit places in a rush.

The other half stems from unexpected changes to my plans —such as accommodation problems or heatwave struggles or cancelled buses or attractions closing earlier than expected—and I even find it easy to get lost.

I don't want to review these photos later at all, or even clear out the bad shots and duplicates. My photo gallery is far too vast—it’s just a dumping ground. I share very little of these photos, even with people close to me, and almost nothing on social media.

On the other hand, the person has no other life stories to tell—nothing but the trauma from ten years ago that caused her to have temporary problems with alcohol.
