Never forget your worth.

You are supposed to go in as a blank slate about the law. It might be terrifying, but the more you embrace it the better off you will be. 

Things you can actually do before going to law school that do not involve attempting to teach yourself the law: 

Spend quality time with your friends and family. They will see less of you during law school, so making this time count is important 

If you’ve taken a gap year, get comfortable typing again. Like, sitting in a classroom and typing non-stop for three hours typing. I suggest doing this while binge-watching netflix and typing what people are saying. 

Read. Read every fiction book you can get your happy little hands on. Read constantly and regularly. This not only prepares you for the fuckton of reading that is going to be dumped on you the first day of 1L, but it’s a good excuse to catch up on that series you put off because once you start law school you might have to forget its existence for the next four years (because, you know, bar exam) 

Ask if you can volunteer / intern at a local law office for the summer. Offer to work and digitize their files, or do coffee runs. The little things that make lawyers appreciate how easy you’re making their life also make them more open to you about talking about their experiences

Go sit in court for a day. Court is open to the public - just sit in motions court and take notes. A judge may ask you why you’re there (it’s happened to me) and just be honest that you’re starting law school in the fall and wanted to see what it’s all about. 

Build a regular exercise schedule. I cannot emphasize this enough. It is infinitely easier to maintain habits than it is to create them in law school. Elle Woods was not lying; exercise give you endorphins, endorphins make you happy, and happy people don’t just kill their classmates.
