Blog Post 13: Cashing in on Disney’s Racist Past
The Walt Disney project.
Blog Post 12: The Hard Worker and the Frog
This video perfectly emblemizes why representation is so important in our media. GloZell is a Youtube comedian and most of her channel is ridiculous hilarity, but this video shows her more serious side. She’s crying because she’s seeing not only herself represented but knows that little girls like her growing up now will have a black princess role model to look up to. I argue Tiana is the best role model of all the princesses because of her work ethic and morals. This video is emotional and ties in well to the class discussions I believe are going to come.

Blog Post 11: Criticizing Up’s Criticism
This Buzzfeed article kills me. Absolutely kills me. It mocks everything that all the Disney princess articles on their website have come to represent. At the same time, the artwork is quite good and the captions are really funny. I think it’s the title and the use of the word “lukewarm” that gets to me. Enjoy!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME
I think I’ve reblogged this before bUT I DONT CARE ITS SO CUTE
a good cat supervises their human during their outings in the wilderness
This could turn into a disney movie, and I want it
tuggingonthesleeves
A prime example of how Disney is so entrenched in our society that a cute story about a man and his cat is immediately Disnefied.

"Circle of Life" has to be the greatest opening disney song ever. It's my alarm clock song I wake up to in the morning. You just have to ignore the logistics of the predators and prey all celebrating Simba's birth together.
I forgot about this weird mouse bit with Scar. Gross.
The relationship between Zazu and Mufasa makes me happy. I love their banter.
Mufasa's voice is so manly and wise.
Scar is so overdramatic and sassy.
I love "Just Can't Wait to be King" for both the music and all the colors especially the tower of animals at the end.
The hyenas scare me. Especially Ed makes me uncomfortable- he really should have beeen an example for negative portrayl of mental disabilities.
I don't care if their relationship promotes heteronormativity I still ship Nala and Simba.
I feel like Mufasa is disappointed in me which is sad.
"You'll always be here for me"- FORESHADOWING
I forgot about Scar's song- my friend just said that the hyenas march like Nazis and I agree that was probably the effect they were going for.
Mufasa's death is actually scarring. I can't handle this. Simba telling him to get up breaks my heart. And thinking he was at fault UGGGHHHHHH
Timon and Pumba save the day.
HAKUNA MATATA!!!!!! Probably my favorite Disney song of all time. I love growning up montages.
It's a small world after all! Disney mocking itself is my favorite.
Disney has a thing for describing the stars as fireflies or ghosts of the past.
Rafiki is crazy and I love him.
Nala and Simba reuniting makes me so happy!!! I mean Timon's kinda right that disaster's going to come if they're left alone together and their lives will be changed forever.
Awwww poor Simba. Mufasa's there for you.
Rafiki is so crazy but he's also the smartest character and knows how to handle Simba's emotions.
He lives in you!!!! Remember who you are!!!! This is close to Hamlet too actually but one of the most powerful parts of the movie.
Slow motion running back!
"I laugh in the face of danger. Ha ha ha." Continuity!
The connection between Simba and Mufasa is so strong I love the parallels except Simba fights back.
I'm glad he's relieved of the pressure of thinking he killed his father.
Simba fighting his uncle- Hamlet parallels.
Disney always makes it so the good guy doesn't murder the villian which is both good and bad- it relieves the hero of guilt but also has become too typical of a plot device.
Overall, I absolutely love this film. While Simba and Nala's relationship does emphasize heteronormativity and I dislike the portrayl of the hyenas, I do love the music. Having read Hamlet, it's really interesting to see all the parallels that appear- except for the fact that they're all alive at the end. I'm curious how the critics are going to view this major change.

Is Simba actually a metaphor for The Dress?
Ok so starting yesterday, my friends from across the country, all of the internet, even my Neuro 101 teacher have been talking about this dress. Watching The Lion King with a friend, she immediately picked up on how these lines directly apply to the internet's current source of drama, which I find absolutely hilarious and felt like sharing.
