Brainy has asthma, which is why he doesn’t talk much and wheezes a lot. He actually has a lot to say, but physically cannot verbalize it

If hey Arnold was set in the time of phones, he’d be the person who texts paragraphs

His family can’t afford a proper inhaler for him which is why he just struggles with his asthma day to day

Brainy loves music! He collects records and such and even likes to try mixing them and making his own stuff

On Career Day he spent his day with Nocturnal Ned, which further inspired him to want to get into music

Brainy is autistic, which only further pushes him into not speaking. As mentioned before he has a lot to say, but his fears of being weird and his physical inability to talk much hold him back

Brainy really really feels like he has to stick to the crowd. In some episodes, a character will embarrass themselves or do something dumb and the class will be seen laughing, and Brainy will be there laughing as well. This isn’t because he’s malicious and is laughing at others pain, he just sees everyone else laughing and decides to join in cuz that’s what they’re all doing

Brainy has a tendency to daydream and wander off. Why was he alone by himself in the theme song? He zoned out and kept walking away from the group

Brainy’s best friend is Curly! He’s close with all the Geeks (as seen in Rhonda’s Glasses) but Curly is his ride or die

The two often have playdates together. Curly understands Brainys difficulty with talking so will give him ample time to say what he’s thinking

Brainy is aromantic, and the reason he so obsessively follows Helga is because he feels like he has to. Seeing all the kids around him having crushes and falling in love, he assumes that’s just the script of everybody’s life so he decides to follow along. Not because he necessarily wants to but because he feels he has to. And he puts 110% in, which is why he’s seen as “creepy” because he extra wants to prove ‘hey look at me I’m super girl crazy ! I’m just like all you other boys I have a super big crush!!!!’

He often internally struggles with wondering if he’s just forcing himself to be in love or if he actually is, and explores more of his identity in middle school and highschool

He genuinely does wanna be Helgas friend!

Powerful BGs from one of my favorite Hey Arnold episodes "Sally's Comet." Just a treat to watch and take in every time I revisit it. I'm always a sucker for the distorted city skylines, I get lost in it every time...

I think the ending with Phoebe was to show that when they do get married, they will have a healthy relationship. If anything, I think it was more of Arnold's subconscious thinking about the idea of marrying Helga and through the episode, realising how badly her parents have affected her behaviour, and how awful her family environment is for her, and outside of that environment, Helga is a decent person. So, I can't say I feel too bad for him (but also it's a dream so it's not real I guess.)

His dreams accuracy in showing her family massively stood out to me (eg the Olga name tag, Miriam's sluggishness etc), he really understands Helga's family dynamic. Their marriage is crap in the episode because they're stuck in the Pataki household and Arnold thinks Helga's family is miserable and knows the impact it's having on her and their dream marriage (and her real life by extension). I think it's interesting Helga sits around the house doing nothing all day in the episode, while Arnold is working. Arnold gets a job directly though Big Bob, and its Big Bob who tells him he has to work because "why should she have to?" (basically because he's the 'man'), so Helga doesn't have to. This is Arnold's subconscious telling us, yes, he's annoyed at Helga in the dream for not doing her part of the chores or working etc, but he doesn't blame her for it.

He blames the terrible environment she was raised in. By the end of the dream, Arnold takes the initiative and tells her if they're going to make it work, they need to move out, and makes Helga accountable for her lack of responsibility in the marriage, then wakes up and tells Gerald being married to Helga wouldn't be so bad by the end of the dream, knowing that she is much more open minded than her crappy parents to what he has to say and is more caring than she pretends to be (kind of like Helga apologising to Arnold after Big Bob called him an orphan in Parents Day), even almost figuring out that she's mean because she loves him, and *would be willing* to make the changes he confronted her about.

So, I would say, while their marriage sucked in the episode, it is still very hopeful from Arnold's POV. His subconscious truly believed outside of her shitty home environment, they could have made it work. So yeah, after a lot of counselling for both of them (they both have so much trauma, I mean from the Jungle Movie alone almost being killed by La Sombra, let alone family issues YEESH they got a lot of baggage), they would definitely work it out!

THE THING I DID THE THING!!!!

L I'm currently aware I did the placement of characters wrong HAHAHA BUT IN MY DEFENCE. I ONLY WATCHED ONE TIKTOK WITH THIS TREND AND I STARTED TO WORK ON IT RIGHT AWAY. I didn't do research about where the trend came from, I didn't even know it was an anime intro (I'm just so far behind trends and trending animes or mangas AHAHAH I rewatch the same old things all the time so I assumd I was not gonna understand it either way)

WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE QUITE FUNNY BECAUSE-WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO UPLOAD IT TO TIKTOK AND I REALIZED I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO FIND THE SONG, I DISCOVERED IT WAS FROM URUSEI YATSURA! (That's why it's not timed correctly with the song too, cause I only wanted to animate freely Helga doing a funny sneeky walk. ALSO, WHAT'S WORST- I'VE WATCHED URUSEI YATSURA! But I skipped the intro HAHAHA)
