could i be crazy or are there way more x reader/self insert fics on wattpad and quotev than on ao3? when i used to use those sites to read fics before i started doing ao3 it was a whole lot easier to find them and there were a lot
also another question - why all the hate for wattpad? i never found and continue to find nothing wrong with it. maybe it’s because it’s less “iconic” than ao3 and people make fun of it and compare it to as if it were the “great value” brand version of ao3.
i had many memories on there reading stuff, both pleasant and….. horrific ones. but anyways people laugh at wattpad but holy shit no one ever talks about fucking QUOTEV which is also simultaneously a quiz site too. i truly wonder how many people still publish stories on there.
oh yeah and the granddaddy fanfic.net because compared to all the other sites i just mentioned that one seems to be like dead as hell.

i seriously love how haaady gyaru leans a lot into the scene queen look a lot, and it’s so helpful as someone who was heavily considering becoming a scene kid and I still long to wear the stuff. but then again, before I became a gyaru i was getting a bit concerned that i have a very large t shirt collection and the majority of the stuff I wear up to this point were t shirts and i’ve always wanted to buy blouses and cami tops.
ive been heavily considering giving away some tees i no longer wear and replacing them with a more diverse arrange of tops alongsides new tees that i ACTUALLY want and don’t just use for either sitting on my ass all day or were impulse buys at five below.
so i finally did this today and i got rid of a few tees i either dont wear anymore or i’ve worn so much to the point that the graphic print is wearing off.

why is it that so many japanese language teachers online make it seem like if you even say anata once you are going to get Fucking Killed in the street
as more and more people become gals how come there isn’t much talk about eurobeat and trance music? they’re the pillars of gal music! but I especially wanted to know why we’ve strayed so far away from Hime Trance, and i’ve come to talk about what it was, its preservation status and hidden danger of becoming lost to time, and what it means to the history of the gyaru scene. (this is a multi reblog thread!)
so, what is hime trance?
Hime Trance was a series of compilation album CDs from the mid-late 2000s that contained trance music predominantly featuring female vocals with songs that catered to a gyaru audience. Hime Trance was born as a subseries of the Trance Paradise series, which itself was part of the large Dancemania line. All were distributed under the i-Dance record label.
Hime Trance ran for 4 mainline albums starting in 2006, and with the 4th and last album releasing in 2010. It also bore 4 spinoff albums: Hime Trance BEST, Hime Trance Speed, Hime Trance Tsukasa Mix, and Hime Trance Anime Mix.
To add to the princess theme, each mainline album had an illustration of princess characters heavily based on Disney Princesses. The first one features Snow White, the second Ariel, the third Cinderella, and the 4th was Jasmine. These illustrations were drawn by the talented Ai “A.I.” Takeuchi, whose works have appeared in many eurobeat mix albums.
Hime Trance also spawned another closely related sub-series, HosTrance. HosTrance, themed around host club men, was a mini-series that only spanned 2 albums, and its follow up subseries Host Paradise also lasted 2 albums.
The popularity of the Hime Trance series also helped spawn many other records by rival record labels to try and capitalize on the popularity of Hime Trance “style” music, or at least, trance music catering to a female audience who were most likely gyaru.
The most notable of these competitors was Avex Inc., best known for contributing to the rise of Eurobeat music in Japan through their Super Eurobeat series, which continues to be produced to this very day. Avex Trax’s Super Best Trance spawned multiple spinoff albums containing music akin to that of Hime Trance’s that perfectly catered to gyaru tastes, with releases such as Natsutora 2007 and 2008 among many others. Notice how Ai Takeuchi also worked on the art for these albums, as she was a well-known and popular artist to be used for albums like these.
Hime Trance featured a mix of trance remixes of songs, and also original trance songs. Some of the staple artists that were frequently featured on Hime Trance were Tsukasa, Misa, Miu⭐️Miu, mint, Ari (also credited as Aya, who often collaborated with Gavin Forsyth), and Kei. Popular artists who had remixes of their songs appear on the albums included Smile.dk, Me & My, E-Rotic, Cascada, and Aqua (via a cover of “Cartoon Heroes” by Barbie Young).
Like the staple singers, Hime Trance also hosted many staple DJs that would have their original songs and remixes frequently featured in the series. Some of these DJs included Delaction, Overhead Champion, and Shohei Matsumoto, who has contributed the most to the series under the various aliases of Bazooka, SP Show⭐️Hey?, Dank-One, HEAVENS WiRE, and the “staple” alias on the series: 4 Skips, often collaborating with Floorbreaker to create 4 Skips vs Floorbreaker (featuring Ari/Aya on vocals). Many of these trance songs either fell into the subgenres of hard trance, buchiage trance, or hands-up trance.
The series sold extremely well in its first year, and was a hit among gyarus, even being advertised in Egg. But as the Japanese club music scene moved on from trance and eurobeat, sales began to decline all the way leading to Hime Trance 4’s release in 2010, ending the series.

3 years later in 2013, i-Dance’s parent label, Toshiba-EMI, went defunct and was absorbed into Universal Music Group. This formally ended any chances of the series carrying on or being revived, alongsides the aforementioned changes in the Japanese club music scene.
As for its parent series Dancemania, the final album in the mainline series wouldn’t release until 2015 with the digital-only album Dancemania - Let’s Party, marking the official end of an era.
the preservation state of hime trance
Hime Trance became a big hit upon its debut in January 2006, selling over 100,000 copies and earning gold certification. It was an instant hit among the gyaru community for featuring catchy songs and remixes of eurodance/pop songs popular among gyarus in clubs/venues. Many of these songs were compatible with *parapara*, the main forms of dancing among gyaru to eurobeat, trance, or techno.
The HEAVENS WiRE remix of “In My Heart” by Tsukasa, the 2nd track in the first album, was especially and hit, and her tracks appearing in every release granted Tsukasa high notability among gyaru to the point of being crowned “Queen of Hime Trance” by fans. It was enough to launch the release of Hime Trance Tsukasa Mix, an album entirely dedicated to remixes of her songs.
Dancemania also played a major role in supplying tracks for the iconic Dance Dance Revolution franchise, so much that the character Emi Tōshiba takes her name from the series’ record label. The Delaction remix of “Butterfly” by Smile.dk is one of the most notable tracks to be included in the games, and it first debuted on the first Hime Trance in 2006, before appearing in Trance Paradise 4 a couple months later.
But since the end of the series and the overall decline in popularity of gyaru in the 2010s, the series quickly became forgotten, and even 20 years after its release it has rarely been acknowledged anywhere, even on the internet. Not even the aforementioned relationship between Dancemania and DDR was able to save it. In addition, EMI never released Dancemania or any of its spinoff albums or projects outside of Japan, leaving them largely unknown or recognized by the rest of the world until video sharing sites such as YouTube and NND began to upload their tracks for the whole world to enjoy.
But asides from growing into obscurity in recent years, many of Hime Trance’s tracks are unknowingly in severe danger of venturing into lost media territory. And this doesn’t go just for this specific series.
The albums, like many other compilation CDs of eurobeat, trance and techno at the time, were mixed to crossfade/transition into one another to emulate the club experience, as DJs mixed music together in order to create a nonstop flow that could go on and on. This means that a song would usually have its beginning and ends chopped off, leaving the main gist of the song, and then crossfade into the next song. Usually, many of these songs would also receive special vinyl releases, which contained the full unmixed version of the song. Those that did NOT receive vinyl releases of any kind whatsoever might heavily point to the fact that the full version of the song (if it even exists), is lost and unavailable to the public, and only the main gist of the song that survives on these kinds of albums is all of what we have of them.
4 Skips vs. Floorbreaker’s “MA⭐️GI⭐️CA⭐️” is one of the unfortunate victims of this, and it appears that even its copyright information is unavailable. It appeared on Hime Trance 3 and Trance Paradise The Best 1999 ~ 2008, the latter of which it was cut down to an even shorter length.
While a good bit of J-Trance songs featured in these kinds of albums has been preserved on YouTube, not enough people have been preserving it. Think about what could happen to them if these preservation channels or uploads suddenly disappeared.
The majority of the artists who supplied songs for the series such as Tsukasa, Ari/Aya, Miu⭐️Miu, etc. also never gained any mainstream recognition whatsoever, and upon googling them, the first results are usually related to Hime Trance or whatever other compilation they have appeared in. The original versions of Tsukasa’s songs that were turned into remixes into the series have also failed to surface, such as “君へノ想イ” (which appeared as the SPACEY vs. garamonn remix on both BEST and Tsukasa Mix), and the original version lies on Tsukasa’s “deep blue” album, which has yet to be uploaded.
Hime Trance, alongsides many other remix compilation albums featuring trance, eurobeat, and techno heavily contributed to the gyaru scene. But unfortunately, it has gone unnoticed and unrecognized, overshadowed by the more popular of the three pillars of gyaru music, eurobeat.
Gyaru largely died out for a good while in the 2010s, as well as its music scene as the demand and popularity of the music popular with them in the first place fell out of popularity. The original incarnation of Egg, where Hime Trance was once advertised between its many pages, released its final issue in 2014, which launched questions if it was the nail in the coffin for the gyaru scene. Egg would return in 2018, however, it definitely didn’t carry Hime Trance or adverts for music of similar nature in it.
The recent resurgence of gyaru culture has managed to bring back popular eurobeat songs in parapara videos through TikTok and YouTube, but trance and techno are often left out of the revival. Hime Trance, alongsides the many other projects that came before it and after, deserves to be honored as a genuine and special part of gyaru history that was overlooked too soon, and should be preserved alongsides other gyaru media of the original height of the scene for future gals to enjoy.
