Scene Starting
Location: Caldwell State University
( This group of friends gathers in the hallway of a designer studio, as they discuss their current lives while running low on caffeine, bantering with one another.)
Zara: Ughh, as if this day could get any worse (she slams her into the wall)
Chris : (laughing) Yo, it's 10 am, what could have possibly gone wrong?
Zara: My own mom decided to give me a speeding ticket (handing over the ticket to Chris)
Jenelle : (laughing) You know she's a female cop, so she has a lot to prove
Zara: But to her own daughter, though, definitely paying this on her credit card
Mia : (Trying hard not to laugh) If it makes you feel better, I got pressed by a homeless person today
Zara: Okay, so that doesn't, but dang, people are so inconsiderate these days
Chris: You see me (pointing at himself), I'm not letting anyone press me
(Everyone stops to stare at Chris for a moment)
Jenelle: (sighing) Girl, what was he even saying to you?
Mia: I honestly had my headphones blasting and made sure I didn't stare into their eyes
(Frantically, Lola comes hauling a bunch of fabric samples)
Lola: Omg, hey guys, these dresses are going to be so freaking cute (she rambles quickly)
Chris : (rolling his eyes ) There should be no reason why you're full of this much energy right now
Mia: (quietly) I'm telling you all it's all of those Red Bulls she drinks
Lola: Y'all constantly love trolling me with reasoning, I suppose ( she mutters)
Jenelle: Lola, the last time we allowed you to create our dresses, I damn near got arrested for public nudity.
Lola : (sighs) Key word, almost everyone
Zara : (scrolling on her phone ) There's no way he thinks we understand what he's teaching
Who
Zara: Professor Jenkins, I swear this dude has been talking in gibberish since the first day
Jenelle: Oh yeah, I stopped attending his lectures once I realized he was cryptic about grades
Mia: And I agree with you, girl. I would've dropped the class the same day, no way this is where my tuition money is going to
Lola: Well, to be fair, you never go to class to begin with
Chris: can't even say the word degree around you, that's why we spell it out sometimes
Mia: Alright, I see y'all have jokes today.
Lola: Guys, I've noticed that none of our plans have fallen through this semester
Zara: That's cause everyone is always busy or hiding their locations
Lola: That is also true, but I've sent you guys so many fun activities on TikTok, and no one responds
Chris: See, I have an excuse as to why I'm currently banned again, for no reason this time
Mia : (scoffed ) For no reason? You literally argued with everyone over which artist is better.
(Everyone begins to walk as they laugh, preparing themselves for their next class to begin )
Jenelle: Anyways, girl, I'm broke between all of the activities and currently paying off my summer class, I won't be outside (shakes her head )
Chris : (sarcastically) Paying off a summer class you didn't even pass, what a shame
Zara : (Laughing) I feel like I've been getting punked all week, between everyone's roasting and my own mom giving me a ticket, I'm done
(They laugh as they exit; the light fades out )

Script Ideas
“Tell me why I was pressed by a homeless person on the way to class today.”
“People are so inconsiderate nowadays.”
“She couldn't say the word; that's why she spelled it out.”
“Oh yeah,h most of her money went to her summer class, which she didn't pass also.”
“Trolling me from across campus is crazy work.”
“Omg, how the heck did you get in here?”
"It's official, during my 4 years here we've never won a homecoming game"
“ Guys, these dresses are going to come out cute, trust me.”
“There's no way he thinks we actually understand what he's teaching.”
“ Why is he being so cryptic about our grades?”
“Ughh, none of the plans we had fell through.”
“This is where our tuition money is going to”
“You know she's a woman cop, so she probably feels like she has to prove something”
“I feel like I've been getting punked all week.”
“ Omgg that's a funny name, like why did they name you that?”
“There's no way I'm paying money to listen to that artist.”
"This is why I don't go to functions that are 18 + only 21 please"
“I got banned on TikTok again, for no reason this time.”
“Please stop acting like y'all don't do the same thing as me.”
“I don't know, guys, I feel as though he's really nice.”
My costume design reflects the cell that I've created for Gallimard, as it's meant to define his life in confinement. Gallimard is wearing oversized pants along with a buttoned beige jacket and regular shoes. I thought it was important to include oversized outfits to showcase the decline in his figure and health during his time in prison. Along with the lack of color and faded materials, it represents his meaningless life now. This ties in perfectly with his wrinkles and hair color, as Gallimard once took pride in being an upkept appearance and lavish lifestyle.

I decided to create a proscenium stage so that it provides a clear story behind Gallimard's life. Creating a proscenium stage allows the audience to understand what goes on within the present and aspects of Galiimard's memories. This framing separates Gallimard's fantasy from his actual reality, which is important in having a clear and emotional view of the journey that's ahead.
For my set design, I decided to create Gallimard's final moments in prison at the bottom and on top would be the apartment that he once shared wth his ex-wife and Song. Gallimard's living room is filled with bold, vibrant colors with depths of warm tones. There's also a large comfortable couch and portraits that hang on the walls. This is meant to represent the image that Gallimard has created for himself and how he fantasizes about a glamorous lifestyle. However, at the bottom of the set, there's a shift in reality, from the bare, faded walls to the minimal amount of furniture. I thought it was important to place his cell at the bottom so that the audience can grasp the idea that Gallimard's ultimate reality becomes a crucial foundation for his storyline.
This design shows that every element represented is meant to contribute to the story; therefore, nothing is wasted. The separation of each setting, along with the colors, tells a fundamental conflict that's occurring in Gallimard's reality.
