[ Gonna go ahead and just put this blog on hiatus. As much as i love Zio, I donât have much muse for her these days unu. I wonât delete in case Zio decides to rear her head, but Iâm otherwise not going to be on this blog. I will be on my other ones, though! ]
âUrgh, being hungover sucks, but I also have to deal with politics today, so thatâs just another headache on top of this one.â
"It hasn't been a month yet, and I already miss combat."
[ i recently came to the realization that i've never drawn Rayya before, so i did that today~. decided to go with Zio and Rayya at their bonding ceremony. Zio's marking is incomplete bc she's doesn't get the full stripe until she's a matriarch uvu ]

Yeah, I know. I used to not like it too, if you can believe it. Because of that! Itâs everywhere and it can make you sad. Then I thought, there are a lot of different kinds of love, not just romantic love, so itâs cool to celebrate all of that!
I was the opposite; I loved it, even if my bondmate always rolled her eyes at it. She thought it was silly to celebrate a human holiday like that, but I always got her to do it, and she'd grudgingly admit she'd enjoyed it. But that friendship idea . . . I may use that in the future. Thanks for that, Sirrit.

Awww. I hope you have a good sleep, then! I love Valentines Day. You get candy, and get to tell all your friends how important they are to you! Like you! Youâre cool and important to me, Zio!
[ She actually cracks a smile ] Thank you, Sirrit. That does make me feel a bit better after today. I have never thought to use the day for friends, honestly. Everything I see is almost always towards a significant other. Hence, the, ah, bitterness.

It will be in four minutes!!!
Oh good. This . . . holiday is exhausting and I'm glad to see it nearly over.

âApologies, Matriarch Lyzio,â Yukiko had heard and seen matriarchs, and just     because this one handled it well   did not mean others handled disrespect.     Even if it was unintentional.     As she explained the situation, the Engineer nodded mutely.  Her eyes darted     around suspiciously.   The shuttles were cleared for now,  but that didnât stop     her from setting up a supply pylon. âBanshees, they   those are   uhm,â She     paused, âThose were Asari right? Forgive my brashness, Iâve just heard a lot.â     She had to figure out if those rumors were true, figure out exactly what theyâd     be up against. âŚEven if it made her piss herself.
It was the calm before the storm, Zio believed. The last wave of Reapers had swept through nearly half an hour ago, and now the quiet was unnerving. And she wasn't the only one getting restless; the rest of the commandos were pacing like caged lionesses, eyes and ears alert for any sign of movement.
The matriarch's eyes darkened at the inquiry, but it wasn't directed at Yukiko herself. "Yes," Zio said. "They were asari once, but not any longer." She still hated facing them. They had once been people, her people. But she had to remember that it was a mercy to kill them now.
"I suggest if you see one, you move in the opposite direction as soon as possible. You will likely hear it before you see it, but don't stay still when you do. They move fast, and they will kill you if they get close enough," she said, voice as serious as she could make it. "I have already lost two people to them, and I will not lose more."

While they had been briefed about the mission,  Yukiko wasnât    aware that Asari commandos were involved. It wasnât so much    of a problem as it was being caught off guard.  Esilo had been    kind  enough to raise her right,   to not be intimidated by  Asari    like  her.  It  was  hard  not  to  be  when  you  saw  them  tear    through armor though.    Approaching the commando  slowly,  she  kept  her gun in itâs    holster. Her eyes locked with the warrior, gaze unwavering.    âYouâre Sentinel Rani, right? Whatâs the situation?â
Humans were always either intimidated on sight by asari commandos, or skeptical and then intimidated in Zio's experience. But she knew a confident soldier when she saw one, and while the woman's approach was slow, there was little sign of intimidation there. Good. It meant she was going to be easier to work with.
Zio's annihilation field flickered and died around her body as the human drew closer, but the tech armour remained. Enemies could drop on them at any moment, and Zio didn't want to be caught with her guard all the way down.
"Matriarch Lyzio," she corrected automatically, although not sharply. "Reapers, and a lot of them. Ravagers and Cannibals mostly, but we've I've heard of sightings of Banshees just to the east. They're coming in waves, and we have sensitive technology here that the Alliance wants moved to a safer location. That is underway, but we need to keep the Reapers off of the shuttles."

"So your stomach didnât get obliterated from the inside out? Iâm impressed, I was never going to try drinking it at all, Iâve never been too good with the really strong stuff from Earth never mind what could happen if I drank something made for a krogan," she laughed softly, but she was genuinely amazed the asari in front of her was so flippant to it. But then again, there was probably more of a story behind it, right?
Drinking to get away from work? Oh, she knew that feeling far too well. âFrom what I hear, the kick is pretty good. But if youâve handled Ryncol I guess you can take most things I could possibly throw at you anyway.â
"No, but I believe part of the reason is because my biotics have always done a good job of burning off a lot of alcohol. I wouldn't recommend it trying it if you're not a biotic. Or not good at holding your liquor," Zio said as she tapped at something on the datapad. "I could probably handle it now that I am a matriarch, but I would rather not risk it; I'm not quite the thrill-seeker I once was."
She dropped the datapad to the bar surface again. "Probably. And I have built up quite the tolerance over the years. One advantage of a long, long lifespan, I'll tell you." She rested her elbows on either side of her 'pad, and then gave the young woman a nod. "I'll give that drink a try, though."
didnthackthat:
A small smile made its way onto the bartenderâs face at the asariâs laugh and comment about hallucinating, she wasnât sure why they had that particular drink, she assumed it was due to all the soldiers on shore leave who found itâŚinteresting to say the least.Â
"Ah, fair enough. Iâm amazed youâre still alive after it, from what I hear itâs strong, strong stuff. Burukh is that krogan cocktail, the one you set on fire and drink hot. Make sure to blow it out beforehand though, saw a guyâs beard get burned off once when he forgot." She visibly winced at the memory but tried not to think about it too much.
"I have a high tolerance for alcohol, but even that didn't save me from the hangover from hell I got from it," she said, shaking her head. "I definitely don't recommend it straight. Water it down first and it won't hit you like a train." Even then it was still strong, but at least it wouldn't put you out for a few hours.
"Ahh, yes, I have seen that. I have never tried it, however." But it was tempting. If humans were drinking it, then it couldn't be nearly as harsh as Ryncol was. "But I think tonight is the night to try it; I need something strong to get me through this ridiculous work I have to do."
didnthackthat:
Estelle had been busy relaying the different drinks in her head, like that Elasa, they didnât have that one in but it supposedly had some sort of cold and sharp feeling to it. A beautiful green colour not quite unlike the eyes of that one woman who came by when she was on shore leave that one timeâŚbut before she had time to reminisce she was flagged down by an asari with a datapad.
"Guessing you donât want anything krogan then? We have Weeping Heart but I guess you donât want to be hallucinating right? Asari hard liquorâs pretty strong right? Or Burukh but thatâs krogan tooâŚ"
The matriarch drummed her fingers against her datapad for a beat, thinking over some of the options the young woman had given her. The mention of hallucinating, however, made her laugh. She would be lying if she said it wasn't tempting, but she did still have work to do.
"No, certainly not hallucinating. Maybe another night," she said. "And I am fine with weaker krogan drinks, just not Ryncol; tried that when I was a maiden and it didn't go well." She hummed in thought for a moment then. "What is Burukh, exactly? Sounds familiar, but I don't recall what it is."
didnthackthat
Zio had been sitting in the bar for almost an hour without drinking anything, which was odd for her. But the datapads in front of her told of why she wasn't drinking, but with the way she was scowling at them said that it wouldn't belong before she was drinking. She then huffed and flagged down one of the bartenders.
"What's the strongest thing you've got here?" A pause. "Other than Ryncol, that is."

"Five hundred? Wow, thatâs - ah, yeah, okay, I keep forgetting how long asari live." He smiled and shook his head a little. Even the idea of living five hundred years - let alone a difference - was mind-boggling. Sirrit had no idea what he would do with that kind of time. Listen to all the music in the galaxy, maybe.Â
But his smile soon faded, replaced by something sad and full of empathetic pain. And some remembered first-hand pain as well. "Oh my gosh. I⌠thatâs terrible. Thatâs - oh my gosh. RyanaâŚ" He blinked hard, nodding. "Yeah. I have noticed how people⌠can be. To me, I mean. I just never thoughtâŚ" he gave a little sigh, shoulders sagging. "Iâll keep that in mind. She does really well. Like super well, you wouldnât even know sheâd had such a hard time. She makes it look easy, even when it really canât be."
Zio laughed. "A lot of people do. But even five hundred years is a long time for us; my daughters are that age, and my sister is younger than them," she said. A little, amused smile pulled the corners of her lips. "I must seem ancient to you."
Her arms crossed and she gave sigh, one that held frustration, possibly anger, but neither of it was directed at the young salarian next to her. "People are vicious, and it disappoints me. You would think by now people would have stopped being that way, but unfortunately, there are always going to be awful people in the world." She shook her head. "She manages very well, despite everything. She's a little jumpy around other asari thanks to her parents, but after a few centuries away from them, she's recovering."
"Ah. And here's the downside to the job with High Command: I have to dress up, which is . . . something I have not done in a long, long time."
